GSG 1911-22 conversion kit on a Ruger sr1911?

hey guys, i'm wondering if it's possible to somehow make my GSG 1911-22 conversion kit fit onto my ruger sr1911?

the kit has had mostly good feedback and it says it fits onto most 70 and 80 series 1911s, but does not seem to fit on mine!

i tried looking to see if they were compatible, by searching the google/interwebs and came up with zilch, but i took the chance and got one anyways, cause i love my ruger and 1911s and thought it'd be cool to have a 2 in 1 pistol.

the frame is the right size (feels and looks good - lightweight). it's just when i put in the slidestop that it goes wrong. the slidestop had to be sanded down a bit, but now that it's in, i can't pull back the slide. i think the correct term for this sort of situation is "lame". i really wanted it to work. the GSG was $260 and relativily rare. the kimber kit is $500

Hmmm. Sorry to hear it didn't work out, but I have to ask why not just buy a GSG 1911 to accompany your Ruger 1911? $260 is more than half way to a whole pistol (GSG) and will save a lot of run time on your stainless beauty. Just my opinion of course.

well i got it to save on space (in my safe and when transporting it to the range). my ruger is out of commision as well, cause after the 3rd time shooting it (2nd week in) the ####ing front sight snapped off from recoil. after having the pistol for 2 weeks running and waiting and finding a replacement sight for a month, i'm a little frustrated. i'd get some use out of the lower frame with the conversion kit.

Wow, that sucks. I also have an SR1911, where did the sight break? Was it the "blade" or the "base" (dovetail)?

I have seen a few posts elsewhere on broken blades on the SR1911. No base issues found. I picked up a spare to try to make my own fiber sight (Western Gun Parts Edmonton..$12.95).

status update: still waiting for the ruger fiber optic front sight to come in. i was able to make the gsg conversion kit fit onto the ruger by sanding/filing down the slidestop. it now fits, all lines up and seems like it will cycle fine.

on one of the only videos of the gsg conversion kit on youtube a guy did the same thing to make his fit as well. wtf

Took the GSG 1911-22 conversion kit on my Ruger sr1911 to the range today. shot fairly well with the federal loaded cci blazer. occasional failure to eject. ran horrible with american eagle high velocity solid lead bullets (failed to eject every shell), but ran flawless with the cheap winchester wildcat, high velocity rounds! so i'll stick with those.

Good for you. Wildcats are cheap. Some Rimfire firearms are ammo-picky. Stick to a particular ammo that runs good with your FA. My Rem 597 is still behaving as said. Shoots better with plated ammo. Terrible with Wildcat.

you know, i was actually perusing a non-sponsor site last night, and looking at the prices of those GSG 1911s. question is - why would someone get just the conversion kit instead of the complete piece? the price of the full piece isn't that high, and wouldn't one rather have two full guns than a gun-n-a-haff?

I have been on the fence for the past few months regarding whether I should by the full GSG-1911 pistol, or if I should just pick up the conversion kit for my SR1911. After much debate, I decided that I want as much shooting time as possible with the SR1911, so I bought the conversion kit. It allows me to work on my grip and trigger control on the same pistol regardless if I am firing 45 Auto or .22LR. And, I have already put a bit of money into the SR1911 since I purchased it. So, the logic of buying a whole GSG-1911 because it doesn't cost much more than the conversion kit didn't seem like it would work well for me as I doubt I would have just left it with 100% factory parts after purchasing it.

Now, with that being said, the conversion kit was very tight and was impossible to fit on my SR1911 straight out of the box. However, after spending about 15-30 minutes sanding the paint off the bottom of the slide and the inside lips of the slide (including the groves), it fit lit a glove on the SR1911. I did have issues with installation and removal of the slide stop, but a quick sanding of the slide stop hole on the bottom of the barrel fixed that pretty quickly.

I made it out to the range yesterday to fire it for the first time. I put just over 200 rounds of CCI 40gr MiniMags through the kit without a single issue.
