I was looking at the GSG 1911-22. The caliber is listed as .22lr HV (at least on one website). Anyone have experience with these? How picky are they on ammo? Am I going to have to spend $0.20per round? Not much point of .22lr if you have to buy Gucci ammo.

I'm a cheap Scottish person, so always looking for the lowest cost. I guess while not being the cheapest 22lr ammo, it isn't too bad. About a 1/4 the cost of budget 9mm.
Lol no worries. I usually cheap out on a few things as well. Less money spent on accessories and firearms means more money for ammo.
Black Friday is coming out so they may do the rebate again. Though I did buy mine a few years ago before all the ammo prices jumped up
The black friday ammo sold a few years ago in boxes of 1600rds of 50rd white boxes is some of the best 22lr ammo around. I bought so much of it and am so excited after finally taking it to the range especially when with rebates it was well under 3cents per round at the time. It gives the best average accuracy in every 22 I own so far and is the best ammo I have yet used in the GSG1911. The only ammunition that has ever given me trouble is Remington. As for the difference in operation between standard and high velocity.....the standard does not always have enough power to fully cycle the slide resulting in jams. That is not to say it will not operate 100% with standard ammo it is just that the majority of standard rounds will not cycle reliably for a full magazine. That said most 22lr rounds I have seen available are high velocity rounds at least in the bulk packs, blast away buy one and shoot bulk ammo.
The calibre needed would be .22LR, but a semiauto depends on the recoil kick to cycle cleanly and it's telling you it wants something from the strong end of the spectrum. You can always try a few different brands of ammo and see what it likes best.
I've had good luck with CCI and Remington but had a pile of Winchester that just didn't cycle cleanly in a semi.
Can be good to get a revolver or lever or bolt gun in .22LR to burn off whatever ammo you find yourself with that your semi turns up its little nose at.

What HV .22 are you talking about? The CCi Mini Mags are still $12ish for 100, they're fairly High Velocity, they work. I got a 300 pack for $33 at Canadian Tire yesterday.{Belleville} I guess the Stingers are .20c + these days.
Mine was picky at first, as only the MiniMags and a few other would run smooth. All other HV (especially Rem and Win) would give me a lot of FTE. I installed the ZRTS Ultimate Performance kit with the steel guide rod and new spring and it now takes everything with speed over 1200. The only HV that do not go well now are the non-jacketed lead bullets (Win Wildcat).
The HV means they work best with high velocity 22 LR ammo. One of the reasons for this is the coloured coating they have, it seems to increase the drag a fair amount. If you polish off the rails a bit it helps slick up the operation. If you don't want to do that I would stick with MiniMags for the first few hundred rounds until it breaks in a bit.
I have 2 of them and they work perfectly with Remington Thunderbolt and CCi Minimags. Winchester Wildcat works pretty good too.

That's some good advice. I have been thinking of getting a .22 revolver as well.
Revolver for sure. Levers and pumps can be really picky about OAL and nose shape for reliable feeding. Bolt action with tube mags as well, actually. Box magazine repeaters to a much lesser extent, but there can still be issues.
