HI,
hope this is the right place to ask this.
Where can I buy 1911 parts, I'm looking for a better Guide Rod and Recoil Spring to swap out on my GSG 1911 .22 that I'm buying next week.....
Thanks!

The guide rods for regular 1911's may or may not fit. The recoil springs for 1911's are all set to be strong enough for the calibers they are intended to be used with. Namely .45acp, .40S&W, .38Super and 9mm. So the springs for those guns won't work in your GSG since they'll be too strong to let the slide cycle correctly.

From all the accounts I've read the GSG is good to go right out of the box. Why do you want to "upgrade" when there's no real reason to do so? Especially before you even try the gun!

I bought a SS guide rod from
http://www.armco-guns.com/New%20Guns%20For%20Sale.htm
to replace the plastic one in mine. Works just fine. I also changed out the rear site for an adjustable one from Dlask Arms and bought some better recoil buffers from Dlask as well.

Gun is great fun to shoot!!

Thanks pep,
How do you like the adjustable sights?

I like it a lot. There are no dots on it but I prefer that. I like seeing only the front dot/fibre optic and nothing on the rear. And by being adjustable in windage and elevation you can dial everything in nicely for different ammo and distances if you want.

pep have you fired the standard remington bulk ammo out of it? If so how did it perform?

Also whats your general view point on the GSG, I am looking into getting a .22 handgun and cant decide between the GSG and the Ruger 22/45 Target.

I've never owned a handgun before and want to get a .22 so I can shoot lots for cheap to gain a familiarity with the pistol setup.

rshew, I just bought a new GSG 1911 a couple weeks ago and the original tapered guide rod spring has been replaced with a non-tapered one. I too was thinking about replacing the guide rod with SS one from Gunnar but so far no problems. With ammo it likes (pretty much any high velocity .22LR with a round nose profile I've tried) it just keeps going bang with every trigger pull. Do yourself a favor and buy a few extra mags though, you'll be glad you did :)

Thanks Bigbore,
I will be picking one up in a couple of weeks, can't wait! :D
Will be picking up extra mags for sure.

No I didn't try that. I tried about 6-7 ammo types. I agree with bigbore. Anything that is high velocity it likes. Most anything that wasn't I got a fairly consistent stove pipe. It definetly preferred plated or washed ammo over straight lead bullets too. Straight leads (I tried lead nose Blazers and no stovepiping as they are HV) were good for 100 rounds and then would spray all over creation. I would clean it, good for 100 then same problem. I suspect it was fouling up the barrel to the point I was firing smooth bore. I have no issues like that with coated bullets though.

General view, is I like the GSG a lot and would recomend it. I have not fired the Ruger so cannot compare. My opinion is a GSG would be a good first handgun.

rshew, make sure you come back and give us an update after you get your new GSG to the range!

edit: oh and as bigbore said, buy some extra mags. I have 5 with mine. Shooting can go so fast you can enjoy the shooting and not having to stop as often to reload. The mags are very easy to reload by hand without any speedloader as the springs are not as stiff as a larger caliber hand gun so reloading the mag is not hard on the fingers. I usually shoot 200-300 rounds with mine every trip to the range. Good luck!

Pep,
I will be in Vancouver the 28th to pick it up and "Yes" I did buy extra mags.

Did you have any problems installing the adjustable site on yours?

I'm thinking I might go that route later....... I will give an update after I try it out at the range. (I took the following Monday after the 28th off work, he,he,)

No, it was a very simple install. Good choice on the day off:shotgun:

Just picked up one of these, took it straight to the range, normally I would strip and clean off the factory lube first and lube it up with something better, but decided I wanted to see how reliable it was out of the box.

Put 50rds of mini mags through first as fast as I could pull the trigger and no sweat at all, next went with 100rds of CCI sub sonics trying to see if it would cycle, and no problem at all, they have more oomph to them then remington subs, but less then the mini mags and it shot them no problem at all, finished with another 150 of mini mags and 100% trouble free.

Going to grab a bigger assortment of ammo next time out, only had a hour today and mainly wanted to just break it in a bit, so far everything is good as long as it holds up, time will tell.

New set of grips for mine ;) Water buffalo bone
