So I just bought a GSG 1911-22 a couple months ago and was curious as to what other people think of this gun, and if you own one what kind of modifications you have made to yours, and what 1911 parts are interchangeable between the .22 and .45. I'm still waiting for my ATT to get it out to the range and put some round through it! Also would love to see pictures of your guys 1911-22! :)

I bought one a couple of months ago (branded as a SIG Sauer) and I'm really liking it, now that I've learned what ammo to use in it. I've tried Winchester Wildcats, Federal American Eagles, CCI Blazers, and Remington Yellow Jackets and have had stovepipe and misfire problems with all of them, but I just put 100 rounds of CCI Mini-Mags through it last Sunday without a hiccup.

That being said, I've been reading that many people that have had stovepipe issues solved them by polishing the slide rails to reduce friction. I figure I'll be able to use the cheaper ammo after I've put another few hundred Mini-Mags through it because the action of working the slide that many times will reduce the friction, too. ;)
 
I don't think there's a dedicated GSG1911-22 thread, but they pop up a lot in the 1911 and rimfire threads. It fits a lot of 1911 parts, supposedly 80% interchangeability, but I haven't played that much.

For me, I swapped out the grips and the mainspring housing (to a flat one) and that's about it. Surprisingly, standard 1911 grip screws don't thread into the GSG 1911 frame....different thread pattern?

Anyway, it's cheap to shoot, accuracy can depend on the type of ammo you're using. It's fun to do mag dumps with it because you can get stupid without breaking the bank.

Once they're broken in thet should consume any ammo. Avoid grease on the rails, oil only and you should be good 2 go. I put hogue wrap around grips on mine. Doesn't miss a trip to the range and she has a few exclusive trips. Great , fun gun.
 
I just bought a GSG 1911 and I'm planning on taking it out for the first time this Sunday. I noticed that out of the box, there is grease on the slide. It's some white stuff, no idea what it is, but there is noticeable drag as the slide returns to its locked position, and I can see how stovepipes could occur. I'm going to wipe that off before range time, give it a little oil, and head out with a few boxes of CCI 40gr roundnose Mini-Mags.

Yeah, mine had a bit of white grease on the slide rails and came with a tube full of more white grease. I figured it was white lithium grease. I didn't open the tube and I cleaned the gun before using it for the first time. I'm gonna try some more Wildcats this weekend, just to see if the performance is any better yet, but I only have about 250 rounds through the gun so far.

You should have no problems with the Mini-Mags. Even with the issues I've had with other ammo, the gun has performed flawlessly with through 100 Mini-Mags.

BTW, I also tried 10 rounds of CCI Velocitor that a range buddy gave me to try. My grouping was noticeably tighter with the Velocitors (although still pretty bad :redface:). I may end up buying some to see if that was just a fluke or if it really is a more accurate ammo. It is a slightly faster ammo, so it stands to reason that it could be more accurate.

Also installed a Dlask rear sight, and spalted hackberry grips.

Unlike some here I find it likes white grease a lot.
It really needs a heavy lube to work correctly, by which I mean a LOT.
If I just use oil it starts to stovepipe a LOT as soon as oil is gone.

The kit does close up some tolerances, so that may be part of it, I don't know.

I got mine a few weeks ago. Surprisingly enough it came pretty dry, not much oil and no grease whatsoever on the slide.

I didn't have a chance to take it out yet. I considered polishing the slide rails, but I don't feel it dragging at all, so I'll decide once I see how it does at the range.

As a note - the brown wooden grips turned out to actually be plastic :/
 
I have watched a few youtube video's on them and most of them say to polish the slide up, I had mine out in the back of the field today shootin some Blazer's through it, at first I had a lot of stove pipes but It got better the more round I put through it. At about the 400 round mark it seemed to be working pretty good but still had the odd stove pipe, I think I'm going to polish up the slide and see how that works! Also watched a video where the guy said to cut out a bit of your mag spring and that will help with the stove pipping too and put the shells in more of a single stack instead of a double stack looking configuration.

Mine didn't came with very little oil on the slide and not white grease.

Has anyone had any problem's with the mag sticking and not dropping out when you press the release? Mine does this once in awhile, not sure what the cause is?

I've upgraded to the steel full length guide rod, and polished the finish off the rails. Other than that, it's stock and have easily a couple of thousand through it with no issues. Eats federal bulk, mini mag and surprisingly remington golden bullet (the bucket), without complaint.

Have you noticed a difference in the gun after upgrading the guide rod?
 
No, I did it right away mainly because I wanted the durability of steel over plastic. I'm sure it adds to the accuracy of the pistol, but I'm also sure I'm not good enough yet to notice. You won't be disappointed with the gun, it's a ton of fun to shoot and at about .05 per round, not hard on the wallet at all. Extra mags were less than $30 last time I checked wolverine.

The finish will wear, but they are shooters, not collectors so I don't think that's a big deal. If you are changing front sight posts, be careful with the tiny set screws, they are easy to strip/ round out. I found the middle size post good for point of aim hold with the mini mags/ federal bulk.

Forgot, I also removed the mag disconnect safety, didn't like having to put in an empty mag to drop the hammer.

I love both mine. I bought my original one when they were first released.
The thing is a workhorse. I have over 15k through it, still runs great. Mine seem to prefer CCI Mini Mags.

Then I bought the mall ninja version and made it my zombie side arm
fake biohazard can and a rail mount sig sauer laser.
