Got a GSG 1911? (Or its slightly more expensive sister SIG) share the knowledge.

What's your experience?

Have any tips or tricks to share?

What kind of mods have you done? Care to post a quick how to or a link to one?

Where do you get your parts? stock or after market who has the goods?

Cosmetic upgrades? What parts did you use & where did you get em? Why not share a picture?
 
Do not over tighten the barrel/frame "screw" and use a drop of blue loctite. Also, remove the mag dis-connect for easier functions test. (Use the Search function or Google it).

My Sig 1911-22 hasn't been ammo picky so seen a steady diet of cheap Win555's. Wolverine has extra mags at a good price.
 
I've buyed one, only waiting for the transportation paper... I'll give my review with pleasure when I'll got it!

My GSG is a fairly recent purchase, approx 1000 rounds so far. No issues, 3 failure to battery in those ~1000 rounds, all when gun was getting dirty. Wipe down and relube and good to go again. Almost all the shooting has been with Blazer Brass which I already knew runs great in most everything so no surprises there, also went through about 100 rounds of Velocitor.

Just a few simple mods... flat mainspring housing (so no more mag disconnect), removed half the thumb safety as I don't need/like ambi thumb safeties, short GI trigger (for my freakshow small hands), grip tape on the front strap (a requirement for me), and frame painted OD green. I'm fine with how it is so far but the sights and thumb safety are crap in my opinion and I am going to change them but I'm not in a rush so it'll be whenever I get around to it.

Why changing the main spring housing? And i'm I correct: The mag disconnect is the safety that it keep us from firing without a mag inserted?

Personal preference but I prefer a flat MSH vs the arched that comes stock with the GSG. Yes, the mag disconnect is the safety that makes it so the gun can't be fired when there is no mag. Specifically for the GSG, if I recall correctly the mag safety blocks the grip safety from being depressed so you can't pull the trigger.

The mag disconnect in the GSGs is located in the mainspring housing so changing it removed that feature altogether but I had it removed before I even changed the MSH because I don't like that "safety feature."

- Custom Full SS guide rod ( from local machine shop )
- Fusion Firearms sights
- Fusion firearms flat MSH
- Para GI safety ( yes I know I hate Para but this was given to me free )
- Arma coat ( This caused me to use CCI stingers ever since )
- pachmayr grips
- Fusion firearms Hex grip screws

If mine still acting up after another 5000 rounds I might have to send it to you for a once over... But the Arma-coat is starting to wear in the rails of the slide, So way less FTF now on the cheap ammo....

I can't see all of these voiding warranty, what does that particular trick specifically?

What is the use of the Main spring? What difference it make to change it to a flat one?
Sorry for the crappy questions, just want to understand...

Hey, no problem. The primary purpose of the mainspring housing is that it contains the mainspring. The mainspring is the spring in a 1911 that applies pressure on the hammer. So when the hammer is cocked, it compresses the mainspring and when the hammer is released, it's the pressure from the mainspring that forces the hammer forward. I hope this explanation makes sense, I'm no gunsmith and I'm trying to explain in the easiest way. Just a reminder that with the GSGs, there is also a little spring and little piece in the MSH which is the magazine safety. This can be removed without changing the entire MSH if you'd like.

The difference in changing between flat or arched mainspring housing is just personal preference. Some people like a flat grip on the back (like me) and some people like a curve back there so use an arched MSH. Then for some people, it doesn't matter. I am picky about 1911s so I prefer a flat MSH so the rear of the grip is flat which is why I changed it. You can also get MSH with different feels (checkering or smooth, etc) and again, this just depends on what someone's personal preference is.

Just left mine stock and had it out to the range yesterday shot about 10 mags worth the very occaisional hicup but nothing too bad. Shot a bunch of the older Dynapoints white box ammo cycled it well. FS
 
I think its time to replace the cheap plastic sights on my Sig...anyone know where to source a set that are metal, requires no mods and look factory without breaking the bank?

For main spring housings is there some that are better than others performance wise? Or is it more of a comfort/appearance thing? Correct me if I am wrong but it is the spring inside that makes the world of a difference.
