GSG 1911 Experiences, Tips, Tricks, Mods & Parts

I've read some good reviews about Duracoat. I don't know if it is esay to find in Canada, but this "paint" is specially made for firearms finish, available in many colors/kits. Applicable like many other spay paint, only need a airbrush or paintgun. It's a epoxy like paint, as you have to mix the paint with a hardener on a certain ratio. The guy a Tactical4less did make a video about it, especially on the gsg 1911. The result is very nice, the possibylities are huges... Let's come out the artist on you!

Gsgpro.com has some parts and they ship to Canada. Not all parts are subject to the export regulations and there is something about less than 100.00...
If you live close to a border crossing ask if they will ship it to a pick-up office so you can pick it up a drive it across yourself. There is usually a fee from the pick-up office (usually less than the extra shipping cost)also most custom brokers will have warehouses on both sides of the line. Some brokers can arrange delivery from the us warehouse to your house or their local Canadian warehouse or office/branch.

Does anyone know what size this front site is? The GSG comes with 3 different heights I'm wondering which factory front site this one is comparable too? There is only one review on the Dlask website and it claims these shoot high. Anyone out there who bought one of these that can provide some info?

I hated the Allen screw take down. So I machined a cone barrel adapter and reverse spring plug with a SS guide rod to replace the factory set up.

The cone replaces the barrel bushing and the barrel now locks up centred in the slide and there is no longer a requirement for the barrel screw.

I have fired about 750 rounds since the conversion. Other than Winchester bulk ammo it runs without issue.

Best of all the screw is gone

Hey, did someone know if the threads on the barrel of the GSG (for the fake suppressor) are the same than the ISSC M22?

Evil_Dark

The GSG barrel threads are 9 mm x .75

That's cool! It's exacly the same than the ISSC M22! So i'll be able to use can with both...! I'm goin to get it today, my authorization to transport just arrived.

Well, what do we have to do to this gun before first shooting? A fieldstrip with a deep cleaning, and lube it?

Brand new, the gun is clean.. cleanliness not an issue. The gun slide needs to be removed, and lightly oiled, along with the outside of the barrel. Ie. Where you have metal on metal contact, it needs oil. Instructions come with the gun.

If you are shooting at an indoor range this time of year (winter), a gun oil will do. If outside in cold temperatures, say, -15 C or lower, then oil the gun (again, not overdoing) with a synthetic motor oil like 5W30. In real simple terms, differences in oil concern additives, such as wax. A synthetic motor oil used in your car will improve gun performance in the winter, and well, honestly, year round. You don't want to over apply oil, because it will attract gun powder from fired shells, and gum up your gun.

.22 semi automatics can be fussy if you don't clean the slide on a regular basis because obviously, .22 rim fire produce a lot less energy than larger calibers and need a clean slide in order to cycle properly, and not jam. The inside of the barrel is less a concern, and some would argue you do more harm to any .22 gun by over cleaning the barrel. The slide of the GSG is a zinc alloy because it is light, a necessity because of the light .22 cal. (ie. a normal steel 1911 slide is too heavy to cycle .22 cal.)

I look forward to shooting my .22 GSG that recently arrived. It is what it is... an affordable .22 in a 1911 frame and I plan on never doing a thing extra to it.

I found this very good review of the GSG .22 today on thetruthaboutguns.com, here is the link to the article, including comments about the painted on finish, other 1911 .22 framed choices, and why it is that way. --> GSG .22 Review

The Ruger Mark 3 is a nice target pistol, and CZ makes a full size copy of their 75B in .22 cal with a smart cycling mechanism within the outer steel slide, which does not cycle. I owned the CZ Kadet .22, and only sold it because I didn't want the double action .22 any longer.... and apparently I wasn't the only one who parted ways with the CZ .22LR Kadet, as it was discontinued last year. And no, neither gun mentioned is a 1911, like the GSG.

Factory supplied left side "competition type safety" caused the grip safety to actuate when holding the gun with a high hold (Thumb resting on safety).
I had to conciously think about how I was holding the gun to ensure the gun would go bang when the trigger was pulled.
Ended up pulling the safety off and trimming the back of the safety at a angle (i.e. Tactical safety). 8 minute job with a cut-off wheel, flat file, and wet/dry sandpaper.
Now looks like my Wilson safety on the .45. I can now take a high hold with my thumb on the safety without causing the grip safety to engage.

All is good.

Got mine today, took her down was not overly put out by the take down screw.

One thing that surprised me was how hard of a time I had getting the slide off. Followed the manual to the letter get to the step pull the slide forward it would not budge so I put everything back together try again still nothing put it all back one more time and third time is the charm slide pulled off.

Perhaps I was treating it to delicately... I dunno all went back together fine it all works according to the snap caps flying across my living room

Max...let us know how it shoots.
As I mentioned before....do not overtighten the takedown screw (use a drop of blue loctite), remove the PITA mag dis-connect, and break it in with HV ammo.

I am hoarding an array of HV ammo, I have some stingers I think I am gonna grab some more..

I compiled a list of what I have and the velocities as stated by the manufacturer...So far I have,

Cci stingers 1640fps
Rem viper hyper velocity 1410fps

Win superX power point HP 1280fps
Win 555 1280fps
Federal 525 1260fps
Cci mini mags HV HP 1260fps
Cci mini mags HV 1255fps
Win superX high V 1255fps
Win wildcat 22 1255fps

Cci blazer 1235fps
Win Xpert HV 1220fps
Win dynapoints 1150fps
