GSG 1911 Experiences, Tips, Tricks, Mods & Parts

I hated the Allen screw take down. So I machined a cone barrel adapter and reverse spring plug with a SS guide rod to replace the factory set up.

The cone replaces the barrel bushing and the barrel now locks up centred in the slide and there is no longer a requirement for the barrel screw.

I have fired about 750 rounds since the conversion. Other than Winchester bulk ammo it runs without issue.

Best of all the screw is gone

Any chance you could show pictures of that?

The cone is made from Al, the guide rod from SS and the reverse plug is Al as well.

It's basically a cone barrel setup from a 1911 comp gun without the comp. I built lots of race guns in the past and this seemed like an easy way to get the barrel centered in the slide and get the take down process closer to the centre fire version. I made the cone Al so I didn't have any wear issues with the slide.

Got mine out today for the first time, very accurate, first 50 rounds I used Blazer, not a hiccup, ran 100%.
Winchester Wildcat didn't have enough pop, gave up on that after 50 rounds.
Winchester 333 same thing, not enough pop to cycle reliably.
Back to the Blazers, ran another 300 rounds with zero failures. Ran last 50 through as fast as I could, no problems.
Good ammo is pretty key to these running well. It was a lot of fun to shoot, will be coming with me every time :)

Happy that it worked out for you. Curious why yours cycled fine with Blazers and not Win333's. According to Max's list the Wins are a little hotter.
My Sig1911-22 runs fine with Win333/555's. Try them again after breaking your GSG is broken in some more..

Might be the type of powder Winchester uses? It was -10 today, so cool enough out. Blazers have always run well in my autos, just running out of places that have it around here.

added superx RN picked some up today, when the weather gets better I will devise a way to test them I am thinking 2 mags of each start at the bottom work my way up...

Finally got to the indoor gun range today, and absolutely loved my GSG. Easy, easy 2 thumbs up.

Now, a guy there also had a GSG, and mentioned (I should have written it down) a web site that sells beefed up mainspring & end piece... I don't need any parts yet, but someone here must know the online dealer that has the parts...

But seriously, the gun was flawless. Sure, tap down your mags so the bullets sit at the back of the mag... but really, no issues... a joy to shoot. @ $375, it is a steal, a lot of fun to shoot, and I'm not aware of any other competition in the 1911 frame for the GSG... I'd certainly not pay more for anything else.... and the Ruger .22 handgun designs never interested me.

Who ever said parts dropp in to a gsg should see my one. Ed brown mainspring housing and gripsafety are suuuper tight and require a machine shop fitting. STI trigger bow does not work with series 80 parts by a millimeter. I gonna give the mess to a gunsmith to get it to work again. And I never by a series 80 again. All those useless parts who make life miserable. Sorry guys, just ranting because the gun is totaly disfunctional right now.

Thats normal with many aftermarket parts... Even in other firarms as some can be made very sloppy and it would be very lose.

Not that impressed at all with mine. Broad side of a barn accuracy, plastic sights that are NOT adjustable and 2 1/2 feet too low at 50 yards. I'm with Ogiku on the series 80 parts, I convert my 1911's to series 70. It' a cheap gun so I'm not going to throw parts at it but I will need to fix the sights just to be usable.

Did yours not come with 3 different height front sights?

^ picked it up slightly used. I'll get ahold of Blue Line and see if they have any front sights, thanks.
