GSG 1911 - Magazine Issue

Hello

I'm up to about 400 rounds out of my GSG from Blueline - I thought I had an ammunition issue from all the fail to loads - I've now acquired 2 more mags and same issues - the spring seems to be under high tension and the rounds are staggered down onto each other and they seem to have issue loading -

The second shot consistently never loads ever...and from close monitoring it seems to be all the mags have the problem which I've tried to load differently to no avail....either it's that or me...

Any comments or suggestions ? I've searched for this issue on the Forum without any fixes...

Try loading them and tip the mag slightly back. Then move the pin down a few times to get the rounds
all angled upwards. I do this all the time and never have trouble. Also what shells are you using? Mine loves the blue box federals and blasers but hates winchesters of any kind.
 
I've been through many issues with my own GSG, BUT still recommend them to anyone who asks.

That said, here's an opinion.

First, the rounds stagger in the mag because of the rims. No way to avoid it. The rims prevent the rounds from lining up perfectly. This is normal (assuming I am understanding your problem properly). It's why high capacity mags are rounded or banana shaped.

The first "repair" I would try is to simply brace the gun somehow when you fire it. Place it on a prop of some kind so when shooting, it can't move. These guns are VERY sensitive to limp-wristing. A firm wrist is important to proper function. Any movement in your wrist translates into lost energy in the slide and can lead to failures of various kinds.

If that fails (and at some point i used this myself) carefully...very carefully, try and spread the top of the mag the smallest amount. Keep in mind these are some kind of white metal and will not bend like other types of metal. You won't feel or see the bending. Use needle nose pliers and "tweak" the mag lips a bit. You may see that the round sits the tiniest bit higher in the mag. Keep in mind also that the slide locking open depends on the lips of the mag, so don't mess with it too very much or it might be ruined.

Try this on just one mag to verify before bending other mags. Don't want to wreck them all at once, right?
 
Huh??? limp wristing a .22??? You're joking right??? OP; once the mag is charged w/ ammo tap the rounds backwards. Do this by tapping the mag into your other hand, also ensure that there is 10 rds...some of the mags can take 11 or 12 if forced but they won't feed worth a sh1t. 40 grain round nose is the way to go.

Does it do this if you load 8 or 9 rounds instead of 10? Have you tried loading your mags full and letting them sit for a few weeks to set the spring and lower the loaded tension a bit?

there's some good points in here, but i can't believe nobody said anything about actual bullets being used?

my GSG feeds worth sh1t with winchester lead hollow points... i guess this is true of all my .22 guns.

but works fantastic with copper plated round nose.
make sure it's a high velocity bullets as well. try Winchester 333 or Federal or American Eagle if you want to go inexpensive plated rounds

have you tried CCI mini mags? and it still does that? i know mini mag is a bit more money, but i think it's worth it .

don't feed plain jane lead hollow points. my gsg hates them.

wrist / loading issue I know aren't he problem

I'm going to try different ammo again to see see how it changes... something like mini mag / hv supper X / Viper... fingers crossed

No, I wasn't joking. But I wasn't referring to the power of the pistol forcing your wrist, I was talking about the tendancy for some people to hold a 22 more gently than they should because it's a small round.

People hold their cooey as firmly as they hold their 308?? Not everyone does.

The OP has ruled that out.

sometimes new mags can be "catchy". Put a bit of lube at the top of the mag, on the spring, and work it up and down. Also, when loading the mag with rounds, once done depress and release the spring once or twice. This helps to get the alignment right of the bullets in the mag. You should have much more reliable feeding.


Making sure the rounds are properly aligned and seated in the magazine by moving the follower up and down after loading will help.

and at least buy at questar sig sauer 1911 .22 magazine there are a little pricie!
 
I had simular problems with mine . I tried different ammo and still had problems. What worked for me was clean and oil the gun every 500 rounds or so and only load the mags up to 9 rounds no more.
 
Lube the mags a little, I tnought mine were a little stiff.... But realised i only needed to polish the feed ramp, quick fix took 10 minutes.... Not one ftf since, really worth a try, i just love this pistol, its the one i shoot the most, guess i am at 5000 rounds now, only duds cause me any issues..

Yanked the slide off mine a couple nights ago and took some emery paper to the slide rails and removed the crappy paint finish.Polished the rails up and she works a lot better.Still get some failures but nowhere near as many.Shot Wildcats,Federal Blue box and Winchester 555's last night cuz it's all I had left around.The Wildcats were the worst,followed by the 555's.Worked pretty decent with the Federals.Wildcats were about 4 failures to feed per mag.555's about 1-2 every couple mags.Federals I'd get 1 FTF every 3-4 mags.

Unacceptable Caper...you ought to sell it. Let me be the first to offer you 1/3 of what you paid for it. :p I won't even hold it against you if you don't thank me for taking the troublesome thing off your hands. :D
