Hey
just wanted to ask if anyone that owns a gsg 1911 has had any issues with the slide sticking when the gun is cold?
I have the zts upgrade spring and such but was cleaning it the other day from a range trip in the cold and noticed during that range trip I had to slap the slide back into battery a few times
could the grease I'm using not like the cold or should I be looking at something closer
even now at home when I rack the slide it seems a little slugish.
will be taking it apart maybe tomorrow to see if it's just really dirty or something I missed.
thanks
Glenn.

I have a GSG 1911 .22 and the only problem I had was finding ammo that it liked. American Eagle and CCI mini mags cured that problem.

As for your problem I would suggest a good cleaning and forget about putting grease on it,just a wipe down with a cloth with a small dab of gun oil on it..

Agree...never grease mine...drop of oil on the rails....for ammo, mine runs flawlessly on federal bulk 525 bricks...only time it ever jammed, I put the recoil spring in backwards..it's tapered slightly one end...got hung up..

polish your slide underneath and also on the top of the frame , the factory paint wears off over time but until then you will have a lot of issues , ammo is another issue find something that works and stick too it mine runs flawless on bulk rem yellow jacket .

hey
thanks for the help
it's been running perfectly for years yes some ammo it likes and some it doesn't . picked up some cci and will see how it likes them. federal bulk is mostly what has been fed ...only have five boxes left of that and winchester white boxes is all I have for 10/22
once I found rounds it liked I put them aside for it.
the grease is gun grease and it ran great before , guess it doesn't anymore..lol
I'll clean it up today and see.

Mine was also a little difficult to get into battery, when new. It seemed to be hanging up on some sharp edges around the slide stop notch. It's a casting so you get what you get. I found that a little judicious filing here and there helped... anyway I've been using a dab of this on the rails, it's good for a wide temperature range.

Been using this one ounce tube for the last four years & it will last me probably the next eight?

Good move btw getting rid of the oem spring, makes it easier to cycle all kinds of ammo, I find

Hey
well I did a full clean up on the gun and wow....I think I actually forgot (ignored) to clean the gun for some time....lol...bad me...
the grease that I have been using in my full size 1911's and this one is from an old gun cleaning kit from like the 70"s I think...my old neighbor is a retired rcmp and had this kit in the basement for 30 something years and gave it to me when he was cleaning out his basement..
anyways
haven't gone out with it range that is ( even though I can shoot my 10/22 out back but not my gsg 1911) makes no sense ....oops sorry rant
cleaned it up and alittle venom oil and it seems to be back to normal for testing that is.
thanks again for all who chimed in.
Glenn.

I see that you added a zts upgrade spring which I guess is made by ZR Tactical Solutions (ZRTS)? Actually, I installed on my GSG 1911 the Ultimate Performance Package by ZRTS purchased from Blue Line Solutions. My GSG 1911 is now a tack driver at 25 yards. No problems with whatever ammo I use. The Ultimate Performance Package is not cheap ($95) but makes a huge difference.
I don’t use any grease on my 1911 and two other pistols. Just Ballistol oil which cleans and lubricates splendidly.

I use frog lube on my wife's gsg and have not had any problems. The gun is all stock. Seems to shoot the "big bucket of bullets" by rem just fine. I get the odd jam, but figure it's just the bullets. I have seen some crap come out of that bucket.

Hey
yes the spring is the zrts from blue line package sorry for not being clear.
name was slipping from my memory..new it was z something.
anyways I did the frog lube in the summer and it ran great.
got lazy I guess. thinking now I should just strip it and frog lube it again.
Last year it hated the winchester white box.. this year it seems not to mind it as much. have not tried the bucket of bullets yet.

If you haven't figured it out yet consider that the right amount of any grease on a firearm is just enough to look wet. If you can see a build up of the colour or texture then you have too much on the rails.

The less you can use while still having a "wet shine" sort of look the better it will work in cold weather too.

Another option that I'm personally trying out at the moment on some rimfire semi auto guns is EEZOX. It's a dry film lubricant which is also a cleaner when wet.

So far the two guns I'm using it in are showing far less buildup of gummy tar like fouling that we've all commonly seen with oil or grease. Instead there's a little black dust which doesn't seem to be making anything sticky or otherwise hurting the function. And at around 400 to 500 rounds through these two guns the action appears to still be smooth and slick. I'm not quite sold but I'm liking what I see well enough to offer it as a possible suggestion.
