I have a Glock 17 and I'm looking for a 22LR semi-automtic handgun because the cost of ammunition is so inexpensive. A 22LR would allow me plenty of trigger time without breaking the bank. I've narrowed my search down to either the GSG 1911 Tactical or the Sig P226 22LR.

Presently I'm leaning towards the Sig because it offers the flexability of changing calibers with their various caliber conversion kits. However the GSG comes highly recommended and for less money. Both are full sized handguns and are not fussy about which ammo you feed it.

I already buy Federal Champion 510 22LR by the case (10 bricks / 5,000 rounds) for my CZ 452 Varmint and I would be interested to know if anyone has tried this ammunition in either of these handguns.

What are your thoughts on these handguns and thanks in advance.

I have/ had both. I first had the sig but it needs some TLC to break it in while my gsg shoots amazing right outta the box and still shoots great. I no longer have the sig 226 .22lr.

Get the gsg and go nutz

I am going Sig because I also want a centerfire pistol and the total cost of ownership is less.

Several site sponsors sell the .22 model of the P226 for about $600 and the conversion kits for about $400. The centerfire version of the P226 is about $1000. That's like getting a free .22!

the glock conversion is realy picky about the ammo it uses . I have a S&W 22a-1 and a gsg and a sig mosquito and a issc m22 i would say for the price the S&W is the best buy feeds great on any ammo. The gsg is my fave because i think the 1911 frame is just the best ever it has a good weght and is not ammo picky i had a chippa 1911 and i would say it was light tin ff crap. I like the grip of the sig but do not like the trigger but only put around 150 rds thrue it so far. The issc is great to only put about 200 rds thrue it but will be shooting it alot more hate to say it but maby more than the gsg.

My SIG worked great out of the box and I use Winchester bulk ammo from Walmart.

I own both firearms. They are both quality. My sig shot well right away. The 1911 was a dream as well. Sig does shoot anything i give it - rounds fail, not the pistol. I have shot higher velocity in both, rem thunderbolt, I think its 1230 fps. somewhere in the 1200 range.

both are worth the money. My feeling, find a glock .22 up that works. .22 are for training to use the real caliber pistol better. I shoot 1911 and sig p226, thus I have a .22 pistol for both.

Smith and Wesson has an M&P .22 pistol out in the usa, it will come here soon enough. Id wait for that even, very close to a glock - better than a glock in my opinion, but I dont want to open that can of worms :)

thunderbolt = 1255 fps

Get the GSG, heard a lot of good things about it. Only thing that not too good is that the finish wears pretty fast. One thing I don't like about the Sig is the slide doesn't lock back after the last shot.

So does Blue Line have these in stock now? I don't see it on their website?

Yes we currently have them in stock at this time. On Page 1 there is the Black and Tactical on page 2 there is the walnut. We also have the mags in stock

Get the GSG you won't be disappointed.
Blueline's great to deal with super fast shipping and good communication.

Took my GSG to the range today and i have to say that it kicks the P22 and the mosquito in the tail. I shot about 200 rounds from 7 to 25 meters, rapid and slow fire, and with the exception of two (during rapid fire drills) they were all on target and grouping nice. It ate cheap federal, Winchester, and American eagle. I even mixed them up copper jacketed and lead nosed in the same magazines with no apparent difference in feeding and firing.

I would recommend this pistol to anyone looking for a good time with a .22 and not wanting to fiddle around with picky ammo and unreliability. The Rugers are reliable as well, in my experience, but not nearly as 1911 FUN!

The finish sucks bad, so be warned this pistol will not look pretty after an hour of presenting from a concealed carry drills when it's going in and coming out of your uncle mikes holster and half hour of rapid mag change drills. :) but so what! Keep it clean and oiled and go have fun. you can always blue it again later.

Hope this helps anyone looking into this great little pistol.

I would add that the buffer washers wear out on the GSG, but I buy washers from spaenaur, red silicone and change out when I do a good cleaning or around 500 rounds whichever comes first.
