So I'm considering a gsg 1911 22lr and comparing to a S&W m&p 22 pistol. Which one would you get and why?

This is just for fun/plinking duty. I like both the 1911 platform as well as the m&p. I have shot the gsg before and quite like it and have shot a 9mm m&p and really like it.

Looking at reliability and fun, which one would you get? Gsg is cheaper so allows more money to spend on ammo which is a plus. Both is also a normal response, but which one first in that case?

I'm leaning towards gsg but thought I'd ask in case s&w is putting out a better product.

Thanks and happy shooting.

Had both. Kept the GSG. Nothing wrong with the M&P22 other than the sights were a little course. I liked the weight of the GSG better.

I have had the GSG for a year and put several thousand rounds through it. It can be picky on ammo and I got stove pipes on Federal Champion but great results with Blazer, Federal Auto Match and Federal copper head 525 bulk packs. The ammo is cheaper and you end up putting more rounds through it. It is a great gun to take to the range with first time shooters. I clean it every second trip to the range so about every 3-500 rounds and that seems fine. I can't comment on the S&W but have been very happy with the GSG. Shop around as prices can vary by $50 or more

Can't comment on the M&P 22, but my wife has the GSG, and I have the Sig 1911-22 (same gun) and I love them. If you buy new, use only high velocity ammo for the first 1000-1500 rounds, once the gun is broken in they will pretty much eat anything. I bought mine used, so I have no idea how many rounds are thru it, but I have put around 5000 down the pipe myself and the only round it doesn't like is Federal bulk, but we are fortunate to have a steady supply of CCI mini mags out here, so that is what we mainly shoot.
I noticed that Wanstalls has the Sig on sale right now for $349, that is a great deal!

I've owned both. GSG weight was nice, much more picky on ammo, however mine loved golden bullets for some reason. The smith ate absolutely anything. I've since sold both for a 22/45 which shoots circles around either of them for accuracy.
If I were to buy another I'd go m&p for sure. I am biased m&p cause I have a 9mm also ,but clearing jams was a nuisance and I did have the zrts upgrade kit installed in my GSG which helps a little. If you got an specific questions you can send me pm.

I’ve had a GSG 1911 for like six months. I bought it together with the ZRTS Performance Package from Blue Line Solutions. It completely eliminates any problems with misfeeding or so. I’ve been shooting nearly all of ammo brands and never had any hiccups. The ZRTS package also improves accuracy.
Since Wanstalls has a GSG Sig Sauer 1911 for measly $349.99 I’d advise you to buy it and add the ZRTS Performance Package right away.
Another alternative is a Grand Power K22S which I also own. Even better shooter than the GSG 1911. Super accurate and eats any ammo brand without problems.

i picked up the sig model "just think it looks better"
picked up the zrts performance upgrade kit from blueline and a pearce grip insert
and here she is smooth and accurate no issues other than bushing fit is a little tight slight rub
which i assume will break in

Some vendor had a Sig Mosquito for sale, forgot which one - looks nice.

I have a GSG 1911 and a M&P 22 (and an MK22 - not that great). I'll be keeping all three but if I had to choose (which I don't), I would say the M&P22 would be my choice to keep.

ive got both.
both are fine guns.
neither screams longevity and accuracy, but both are fun to shoot.

if your just looking for a cheap plinker either will do just fine, but if i had to choose just one id take the M&P and thats only because im a fanboy.

if your looking to get a bit more out of the pistols (like accuracy and longevity) than id recomend you broaden your looking and maybe have a look at Browning Buckmarks (first choice) and Rugers (2nd choice) but the prices are going up up up up up!

Keep on walking on those Mosquitoes..

GSG. I have one with the zrts kit installed and just placed third in a competition at my local range with it. It's stupid easy to shoot and once I realized I had to runout oiled rather than greased like my .45 1911 it has run like 98% reliably.

Yes, beautiful Sig logo. ;) All guns are made in the same factory just stamped with the Sig logo instead of GSG.
Everything else is just marketing.

Long-time GSG owner here as well. I installed the ZRTS package as well. Not so sure it made any operational difference.
As long as you break in using the recommended ammo, you'll be fine without the ZRTS. Also oil the rails during break-in.
Basically break in just rubs the paint off the frame rails so it runs smoother. You can do the same with fine sandpaper.
