Hey, New to CGN and I have a quick question:

Is the GSG-5 legal here in Canada? I mean, it's a 22lr.
If so, does anyone know where I can buy/order one?

on a side note, also wondering when the ProMag G36 kit for the 10/22 will be available?

Thanks for your help

The question is why ANYTHING is prohib? I don't randomly rob convenience stores with my 2x4, fork or 9mm. But I'm sure there's a reason.

i thought there was a court battle pending over the gsg 5??

February 25, 2008: The RCMP’s FRT Department classified GSG-5 as prohibited weapon, claiming it to be HK-MP5 variant. The decision was entirely based on visual appearance, rather than technical facts. We have decided to dispute that decision. We retained T. Murray Rankin Q.C. of Heenan Blaikie to pursue a review of that decision and, if necessary, an appeal. We will further inform you of any developments on this matter.

Fair question. Despite the legal system being slow beyond words, 3 years seems a long time to me for absolutely nothing to have happened yet.

Dear Mark,

It's still before the courts at this time. Once we have more info we will provided it through our website.

Best regards,
Scott

Yes, but the RCMP don't get to dictate when court dates happen.

Any idea on some progress? Next court date? I do appreciate that things get stayed and delayed repeatedly, but even a very basic update on the proceedings would be appreciated.

Does it really matter at this point?

The GSG 5 is no longer in production. HK sued for infringement and won, so they are no longer able to produce the GSG 5......

If they aren't making anymore who is going to be able to import them?

Actually, after H&K sued, GSG modified the GSG-5 design to a point where HK was satisfied with the mods, and now GSG is selling the updated version which is called the GSG-522.

explained on the GSG website :

So technically, yes, it does still matter. If you think about it, now that GSG has brought the updated design even further from the original MP5, this could be a new argument in court to demonstrate that it is absolutely NOT an MP5 variant.

We have already been told that the MP 522 is also a variant as well.
