Gsg/Sig 1911 .22 ZRTS ultimate kit question.

Hey,

I bought the kit for my Sig 1911 and it dropped in perfectly. I have heard a few times now you don't need to reinstall the annoying barrel retaining hex screw. This would be great as I can see it stripping out after years of removal for cleaning.

Anyone upgrade to this kit and omit the screw?? :nest:

I haven't used it since the zrts kit was installed. Could of sworn I read somewhere that the screw was not to be used once you upgrade.

Not sure why...first is a pin, second is the slide lock pin and thirdly the tiny Allen screw...not sure why the engineers thought it needed all three....I have the zrts kit installed...but still have the screw in...better try it without....
 
So I put 450 rounds through it today 150 with the screw installed and the rest without. I found it made absolutely no difference in function. Now here is the bad. I am getting light primer strikes every magazine. It started off performing good and just got progressively worse. I cocked the hammer back and it fired every time on the second shot after the ftf. There was no order to the fail to fires, it was random rounds through the magazines. It also failed with both mags. It seemed to run better with m22 ammo and was failing 3 of 10 with mini mags towards the last 150 rounds which blew my mind. But it like the m22's so I will feed it those.

Sorry for rambling on but I want to give all details prior to asking for input on the failures.
Anyone experience this with their gsg or sig 1911 .22's?

You still running a buffer? Never had that issue with mine...what brand of ammo are you using...mine has always preferred slightly hotter rimfire...actually I only run federal bulk...zero issues with it..
 
I'm am running the buffer that came with the kit. It's a touch softer and thinner to compensate for the thicker base of the full length guide rod. I tried breaking it in with CCI mini mags. After 130 rounds or so I switched to Winchester M22's. it was running better but still was delivering light primer strikes. I also shot a few mags of a buddies Remington thunderbolts to confirm it wasn't just an ammo issue.
 
I'm using the ZRTS kit without the screw. No issues in more than 5K rounds. As mentioned above keep the firing pin channel clean and there will have no issues.
 
I polished some parts with steel wool (0000) to make the slide move easier. The slide is so light sometimes the factory paint and grit inhibit in from preforming properly. The range I belong has a couple gsg/sigs as rentals and they advised me of the polishing trick and of the ammo that had best luck with. I also only use the Remington bucket of bullets. I know it is cheap but it works great in this gun. I had some failure to feed issues and it turned out it was one of magazines that was the problem. I took all three of my mags apart to clean and it helped a lot. I just to give that one magazine a good whack before putting it in the firearm cause the bullets sometimes go almost horizontal in that particular magazine.

I have a few different brands of ammo. el cheapo and the cci mini mag stuff.
when I shoot the bulk cheap stuff I get tons of failures stove pipes, light strikes and such , when I shoot the mini mag stuff not one failure. I have done some youtubing on this gun and watched someone do a ammo test and found most of the lower end bulk ammo these guns don't like at all. for my 10/22 I use the lower end stuff till its gone the mini mag cci for my gsg. I have found the federal bulk in the black box ran very well in it but haven't ran much of it as I'm saving it up and trying to use the stuff I don't like first.
rem gold bullets I think it's called.
pick up cci Mini Mag and run it and see how it goes.
I too have the upgrade kit and it makes the tear down just as easy as my other 1911's
only thing about my gsg is it doesn't like to shoot in the cold, won't return to battery 100% sometimes.
