Gsg stg 44

The ones I saw had rough looking real wood, like it was made with some hand tools by a beginner. It was under the lights in the showcase at Cabelas, and showed a lot of flaws for a gun at that price. The other one was at the range one day.
Nicer wood and better bluing would have improved the look a lot.

Don't know what you saw, but I know exactly what I own, and it has none of the flaws you describe.

Um...because it's FUN?

As in semi auto non restricted or even restricted version in a reliable format other than the ssd guns.

I didn't think I really had to spell it out.

Er, well, if it's a centerfire semi-auto, then it's limited to using 5 round mags, and that's just no fun at all. Other than the pretty dammed exact look and specs of the original, this rifle's features are 25 round mags, an action that fires just as fast as you can pull the trigger, and its .22 chambering, so you won't have to buy lots and lots of expensive ammo plus-- it's Non-Restricted, so you can take it into the woods with you.
I've found this "Stuggie" a fun gun to shoot, so hey, what's not to like?

The lack of kick when you pull the trigger. I like it for everything you say, I'd still want a version in the full 7.92x33 Kurz round.

I like my STG44-22. Fills the void, but not completely.

I put one mag through mine and sold it functioned fine but I could not get past the cheap Pot metal cast look of the reciever reminded me of a crossman 357 air pistol or matchbox car metal LOL

I mostly like mine, it's fun and I will likely keep it.

Am I keen on it's internals and the materials they used though? No.

For example, the breech block around the chamber is made of some soft pot metal. If the gun catches an empty case, that case tends to cut or dent the block, that just screams "cheap" to me and over time could possibly cause function issues, or damage to the feed ramp or extractor pathway etc. which are merely very thin steel inserts inside this play-dough block.

Also, I'm not fond of all the plastic/nylon used.

Again, It's fun but after examining it's materials I was not impressed at all.

I will now proceed to fire it until something fails and I will make note of which components that happens to be and their materials.

Took mine out for the first time and the c-clip broke on the adjustable back sight and all the bits went missing in the grass!! I did get a mag and s half prior with no issue. Found the parts and replaced the c-clip. Hope to to put a few hundred rounds through it today or tomorrow. It was fun for the first mag!

just picked mine up today not sure what people are talking about cheaply made this gun feels as solid as it gets i got a berreta that cost double the price and doesnt feel as strong, going to put some rounds through tomorrow hope all is well and ill be more satisfied with my purchase.

My gun in below zero does not feed or eject well with any ammo but stingers now. Strange gun this is, even the CCI mini mags in 40 grain or 36 grain were a crap shoot for functionality.

The Winchester Max 42 grainers at 1320 work about 95% of the time but still has a few hiccups. Stingers 100%

I've only found one 'plastic/nylon' part, and that's the small spacer behind the bolt assembly. As I said earlier, I've not had a single failure yet after over 1,000 rd. Oops-- shooting my very first 25 rd mag resulted in a few 'failures to eject' which I put down to 'break=in' since I've had zero issues since then.
Maybe GSG has two factories-- Good Factory-Bad Factory?

IIRC another member criticized the stock for looking unfinished, but take a look at one of the originals--they're virtually identical. Remember, by the time the StG 44 came online, German industry was stretched to its limits due to shortages and Allied bombing, so their arsenals were hard pressed. Despite that, the StG was an excellent weapon, but for the German war effort it came too late to make much difference.

Here's an interesting YT clip showing the similarities and differences of the StG 44 and the GSG .22 version:

Also, have a look at this other StG thread which has not been getting much traffic lately:

Bought one when they first came out. No complaints at all . Very enjoyable to shoot. People look past my other boomsticks at the "range" n ask with big eyes what kind of rifle is that? When I tell them its 22lr they don't believe it. Hahaha ! After popping off a few rounds most of them say holy @*^t where can I get one? LOL. life is good !

That about describes my experience with it as well. Very well mad solid rifle that performs flawlessly. It is a real crowd pleaser too - I can't remember how many people have approached me to ask about it and who I've allowed to try it out.
