Hi all,
Does anybody know if antique firearms would be exempt from GST on import due to being over 100 years old? I believe there is an exemption in the us, but not sure about Canada.
Thanks

will probably have to try contacting CBSA by phone as I can't find anything online. Hopefully one of the experienced importers can let me know![]()
wbaad, the tariff code is 9706.00.00.90, go to CBSA website and go to the import/export tab. Next go to the Customs Tariffs. Look up this code and it explains it for you.
Ahh got it! Thank you.
I got charged duty on my import even though it had proof of antique status and they held it for a week in Montreal to open the box and confirm it was an antique, then charged as if it wasn't! Je ne parler englais I guess....
Waste more time filling out the dispute form.
Rant off
Just remember, it should've been duty free, but you will still have to pay the other taxes. Having said that, the refund should also reflect a change in the other taxes since taxes were also applied to the duty and the value of the goods.
Good luck
