Anyone here ever follow the GTA gun auctions. I see they have a year end auction on the 25th that has 5 Pythons listed. The bad news is the buyer's premium is listed as being 19%!.... I am the only one that thinks that is getting a little ridiculous?

Through the Icollector auctions as sailor says.
Factor in the rediculous ‘buyer premiums’ ..... ‘taxes’ ..... ‘shipping’..... and your in for big bucks if your not wary of the additional costs over your bid amount.
Good deals can be had as long as those factors are not overlooked when bidding.

19%??!! Wow that’s a lot. I took a look at the listings. Nice Pythons.

Didn’t you just sell a few snake guns?

I don’t know what it’s like on a desktop but I’m appalled that the pics are posted at such a low resolution!! Do they really think people are going to bid big $$ on collectible guns with such poor descriptions and crappy pics?!??? And they charge a 19% hammer fee for that garbage?!?!?? What a scam.

So you bid $100
Then pay $19 buyers premium
Then HST on the $119
Then Shipping

WHY WOULD I EVEN BOTHER

Yep, a Python and a Diamondback on the EE. With the 19%+Tax+S&H for buyers and ( I assume) the usual 25% commision on the selling side the EE looks pretty good for both buyers and sellers.

That is just crazy.
It's been a long long time since I have been to a auction but I dont recall there ever being a buyers fee?
I thought they just took there cut from the seller.
Is this typical now?

Yep, it's 15% at Switzers and (I think Wards)....although Wards might be 15%+3% CC fee for online buyers....I forget.

WestDrifter is right, you need to keep you wits about you when bidding...or be very good a fast mental arithmetic.;)

Say one of those Pythons went at 2,000. You might think that a pretty decent deal but for someone in a 15% HST province like I am that would be over $2700 with fee,tax and shipping. ....Not so great of a deal.

Yeah, you would think they would put better pics??? Grainy and low res. Any current cell phone will take better pics.

Shows that they have a IDGAF attitude.

Kidd Family Auctions has no Buyers Premium.0%. May be of interest to some.

Auction houses don't guarantee function at all. Last year I bought a .22 target pistol at a decent price, but it turned out to have a nonfunctioning extractor. I'm still waiting for the gunsmith to make a new one for it. Better to buy from a reliable store or on CGN where (I assume) most sellers want a good feedback score so will disclose any issues.

Most of the auctions I've attended charged 23% on top of the selling price (13% sales tax and 10% buyers premium). That was for live auction attendance. If you were online bidding, it jumped to 28% above hammer price as the buyer premium went up another 5%. At that, 19% don't seem too awful. I had a simple method of budgeting. Figure out the max amount that I would pay for something, and then calculate the dollar value plus add-on's that would bring me closest to that amount. As soon as the bid price exceeded that dollar value, I was out. I saw people caught in bidding frenzy and way over pay for things. Some folks got more money than brains I guess.
