Guess I need a new mag

Hahaha... indeed!

And, I second the following suggestions (as alluded to above, by various):
-A pistol without 8+ mags is just a toy - go get more;
-Mag quality matters - get some Wilson or Chip McCormick.

I like my Chippys, but I only bought Chippys because the Wilsons were hard to come by in my neck of the woods and I got a good deal on 12 CMC powermags.

Does Wilson make the Government type mags? I prefer the "old style" look compared to the new style with the rubber on the bottom :D

On the CMC mags, the old-style look is accomplished by simply not screwing on the rubber baseplate. I can't speak for Wilson Combat since I don't own any.

what brand is the brass you are having problem with?

you have a extractor or ejector problem and a maybe a mag prob if not holding open after last shot or dirty extractor area or brass problem

when last round is in the chamber and mag is empty and you fire last round
brass will not come close to mag again so you have a extractor problem or ejector problem because brass is not clearing chamber area

or light loads that slide is not coming back far enough for ejector to eject it

or small rim diameter on brass and random problem appears and dissapears depending on brass (not enough tension on extractor) (old brass)

From your pictures,it looks like you have an extractor problem rather than a mag problem. You probably dont have enough tension in your extractor, and as the last round is fired and extracted from the chamber, there is no following round to hold it in contact with the extractor,it slips down, and is not extracted or ejected properly.Other contibuting factors to this could be limpwristing, weak loads, too strong a recoil spring.

i used to get my mags in bulk from south america- 5/25 , usgi copies, parked or chrome( ss?- doubt it)- some would work in one 45, not in the other, some in both- some in neither- that amounted to about 18 mags- reversed the springs in some, swapped out the follower in others, and simply inserted/ejected until they ALL worked- so don't throw it out just yet-

Once again, why does it only happen with the ONE mag and never with the other?

If you reload, make up some dummies with no primer/powder.

If you don't, then just keep 'er pointed in a safe direction downrange while "fiddling."

Now dummies I have, 3 in fact. Just cant get the bloody thing to jam though. I think it's because Im actually manually pulling the slide and not letting it "do it's thing" on it's own like it would shooting.

Pull it hard and release it quickly? Still nothing?

Might be time to take the toolbag to the range... I had to do that with a Kimber SIS I bought - wouldn't run for SQUAT until I gave it some TLC. Now, no worries.

Ow... got it in the lip....

If I wake up early enough and can get to the range before the IPSC closes the handgun range down I'll do some tinkering. I need to play with my rear site anyways to get it sighted in. And no it's not my shooting, cause it's hitting the same place for everyone who uses it :D

Once again, why does it only happen with the ONE mag and never with the other?

If you look at your picture of the "bad" mag,you will quite clearly see that the follower sits lower than the "good" mag,and its quite likely that the extracted case is dropping down and slipping out of the extractor hook, causing this type of jam. This is the reason why you may see followers that are rounded at the top,to simulate a following round coming up.So its quite possible for this to happen with the one mag

See if this jam happens when you fire the gun without a mag in it.This will give you an indication whether your extractor has enough tension,or whether you get the same type of malfunction. Also, take the slide of,and see whether the extractor holds a live round against a small amount of finger pressure.

Either way,get rid of the Norinco mags, they are real junk

Agreed - against finger pressure or a bit of a 'shake' or 'tap.'
