Guesstimates on Glock modifications

I'm thinking of picking up a Glock 17 and having some fun modifying it.

No idea where to start and no idea on price. Generally speaking what would modifications to a Glock like this cost?

I'm thinking of stippling, cutting vents in the side and top of the slide and throwing on a mini-red dot base. Any guesstimates on what that would run?

I haven't seen many tricked out Glocks on the EE.
 
I have a fully built Zev Tech Glock 19 that I brought up straight from Zev.

Pm me if you want, and I can give you some of the finer details on having someone build one for you. I still have my price list from the build.

You could source out the individual parts and piece a gun like that together, but it might cost even more. The slide on my G19 is almost worth the same as an entire OEM pistol

Well indeed that is going to be some 'expensive' fun on an already great pistol.....

Not many on EE cause they are like tricking out a Harley - what appeals to you likely will not appeal to many...they become a personal item...especially at the cost...

Here's an example of what I had black box customs do, not as detailed as the agency Arms one you exampled but it'll get you an idea. I believe all the work done including cerakote was just shy a 1k, plus the price of the glock, the rmr and additional parts.
I think in total this one came in around 2500-2800

May be some of you will disagree but if I can drop 1K or two or three and make my Glock look like the ones in the pics I'll totally do it. In a long run the ammo cost will make this customization cost seems insignificant. The gun is gonna last you a long long time afterall. The only thing stopping me from doing it already is that I will have to send in my gun for weeks or months... I have no problem sending my wife and kids away for months.. but not my Glock for now.

Do the sights (Dawson with 0.1" FO), trigger, Ghost EVO, polish internal parts, get an aftermarket barrel, grip tape or sleeve. The other stuff like camo, ports are not necessary. Unless you want you to wear a camouflage to your range and your range is in the woods LOL.

You are shooting 9mm! Why do you need ports? Why do you need a threaded barrel in Canada? You are not going to use it unless your guns are used in the movies.

Do you mean slide cutouts? Less reciprocating mass, faster reset for your sights, reliability of custom loads etc.

How do you attach a compensator?


Over the years I've learned to be less ignorant. Modifications aren't my cup of tea either but that doesn't mean they don't serve a purpose.

Oh, ok. Seems like a big overkill to do that on a Glock. Better save money to buy STI, LB or X-5, but then again I like shooting these things....

Compensator on a 9mm Glock? Not sure why would someone want a lighter slide. Glock is feather light as it is.
 
So for the Glock shooters big question.

If price between the models isn't an issue whats the better buy between Glock 17 Gen 3, Gen 4 or Gen 4 compensated (below)

I don't think you want 17C. The gun is light as it is. It is better to have a heavier slide. I'd recommend you get DMP guiding rod to add weight to the front.

As far as Gen 4 and Gen 3. Google the changes and figure out what you need. I know the trigger bar has been changed in Gen4, it actually makes trigger worse as the part that lifts the plunger is actually rubbing against the slide. Some people replace Gen4 trigger bar with Gen 3 trigger bar.

I'd get Gen3 if I were you. Upgrade the sights, trigger, connector, polish everything.

If you want to install optics, get Gen 4 MOS.

You've got that wrong. The lighter the slide, the less mass you have moving forward and backward. This results in a flatter shooting pistol. The parts that don't move (Guide Rod, Magwell Insert) is where you want to add weight.

I've got a full Zev Dragonfly build on a 17 and it shoots WAY faster than my stock 17. If you're going to spend money to modify your slide, strongly consider the Zev slides. They're lighter and built to tighter tolerances than you'll ever get a modified Glock slide. The RMR cut on the Zev is lower as well. I'm beyond satisfied with the money I spent. I bought it piece by piece so I didn't feel the whole hit at once.

All in for a full Zev gun with an RMR, you're looking at $4000

My frame is currently at Blackbox getting stippled the trigger guard undercuts done. Their stippling is a LOT nicer than Zev's
