Guide me - SKS

Best mod for a SKS is a cleaning kit for all that surplus ammo you just suck it up and shoot. Bayonet is for sticking it in the ground when not in use.

I use tapco mags with an ati stock. Requires a bit of clearancing to fit. They work good. From what I recall the stripper clips don't work with the magazine tho.

Edit: just to add, the ati isn't cut for the bayonet. I believe the tapco stock is.

Stripper clips will work if you do a little bit of filing. You jusst need to notch out the back end of the feed lips to lets the wider end of the bullet pass by more easily. If you hold the original mag and a tapco side by side and compare the feed lips you can see what needs to be filed back.

One thing nobody tells you. These rifles were sighted in by the factory with the bayonet extended. indeed all Mosins, SVT and SKS were sighted in by the Soviet army with bayonet on.

I don't think what Black_Valkyrie is asking is too much. Some people are comfortable with picking out individual parts and putting them all together and some just want assistance with a complete package.

As an IT expert, an example that comes to mind is computer buying: I love buying separate computer parts CPUs, Memory, boards, etc...and then putting them all together to make a dream machine , but I would not get all up in arms if someone with less experience to ask for a package of all necessary components to build it at home, or for the complete novice who has the vendor build the entire system and then delivered.

Isn't that the point of talking to the experts at a business anyway? I don't see why a business would not come up with a list of parts and a quote for such package if requested by a customer?

That would be fine if he was talking to them on the phone or through a direct email.

Hailing them in a random forum post not even in their subsection of the forums is however not the way to achieve anything.

True, but I guess he was responding to Hical's post in this thread......and yes, PM, phone, email or going to the store would definitely get answers faster than replying to this thread.

Thanks for understanding.

FYI part of the point of this is that if a retailer wants business, they have to do more work than just say "oh buy from me".

At this point since I haven't received a PM from hical they can consider me a lost customer. Curiously I asked the same thing of Canadian Tire and they called back with several build options and were happy to help me.

Retailers need to work to gain loyal customers and hical really failed IMHO. I'm sure all the twits that joined in derailing this topic just for their own fun didn't help - but that's ultimately still hical's problem. Listen to people trolling a topic or actually help sell something and gain a customer.

On the car and other enthusiast sites I'm on this would have never gone this way. Site sponsors would have PMd me right away - happy to sell me something knowing I'd come back for more and tell all my friends.

Oh well. Mix a bunch of passive aggressive Canadians and their neutered access to guns along with the Internet and this is what you get.

So I guess ultimately it's Canadian Tire who gets my business. A learning lesson for all those smaller retailers that you have to do more than just post "I have what you need" in a forum to win a customer.

..or possibly you just picked a bad method of communication. Do you really think hical and all the other retailers follow you around on an open forum to see if you might be demanding they send pricing to you immediately? Really? LOL :) That's a bit more than I could expect - I would have at least sent that message on a PM OR email.

The other possibility is that the retailer did read your message on the forum and decided that they didn't need your business because the way you presented it kind of makes you look like an arrogant little prick. You might not see that, but everyone else did. Your personal communication skills aren't doing you any favours. :)

"Frendo".

So Call CT and they HELPED, #####ING that you PM a business from a 3rd party website and they didnt. ?

So they prolly already had 10+ orders so far and not even open. Im sure they are going to miss you? Cept your bashing them over what? because they didnt PM you? Who's sounding like a child?

EMAIL OR CALL.. IF YOU want a response. CGN is just a network for all these stores to get together. Doesn't mean they have to continue to be on here answering every question. You been on CGN for a couple months, Ive been 14+ years.

I understand what you were trying to do, the concept of different packages makes sense, and you were asking generally about an SKS and were informed of Hical. I too am in the Information Technology field and for personal computers I build myself but for business I use packages (lazy).

With that being said, its a little unfair to say they didn't want your business or they didn't try hard enough. Had you of called them like you did with CT I'm positive they would've met your needs. Unfortunately on a public forum, in a general area, its difficult for businesses to keep track. Think of all the threads and how fast they move around on here. What are the chances they have someone dedicated to the forums for 8 hours a day? I'd say fairly unlikely... Why don't you give them a call and compare what CT offers you? It's probably worth it, especially considering the stories I've heard regarding CT handling of firearms.

Well - I'm in IT too. The other forums we deal with have people that specifically monitor forums and track down leads to generate sales. That being said, they are American so that simply means they are much smarter at taking people's money. Case in point this topic. Shining example of total lack of understanding from both the retailer as well as this customer base. Typical Canadian response - customers in this country are happy to accept high prices and poor service. It just does NOT work like this south of the border.

To make matters worse, Canadian Tire "gets it". Sad.
