Guide me to choose the right barrel length.

27 INCH 1:10 , 1.20 , M24 , 6lbs-9oz

Nice profile but certainly not one I would have suggested to build a light rifle... but you have it now. As has mentioned many times, choose the length you want for handling. There is no reason why you can't shoot accurately at 1000yds .... I am shooting a 308Win much further with excellent accuracy. Given that shooters have pushed 308s to 2000 and beyond for many years, 1000yds is just something you have to get over in your mind.

With that twist, add the Berger 185gr OTM/Jaggernaut, Sierra 195gr TMK to your menu if you want to mag feed (use a 2.95" mag)... it really isn't a big deal to reach 1000yds

if you are ok to single feed, then Sierra 200gr MK (new gen) or Berger 200-20X.

I would pick 19" as a min cause you want to hunt and CO's have no clue....

You are WAY overthinking this project.

Enjoy....

No need to overthink it.

If you are not trying to set world records or be competitive on the competition circuit, there's no real reason not to go shortish (~20-22 inches).

I have a 21.75" .308, it's fully capable out to 1,200 yards with 168 SMK FGMM ammo. Would I win an FTR match with that combo? Most definitely not, but it's a hell of a lot of fun to shoot with, and it's more then capable of hitting targets at distance. Makes a great trainer rifle, as the wind will bully the projectile a bit, but that adds to the fun.

My first custom rifle builder talked me into a 22 inch barrel for a 308. I cursed that thing until the day I changed it out.

Yes it was accurate enough for 600 yard work, but it just felt off. I would never do that again, but that's just me.

And mine's been a complete joy to shoot. It's been perfectly capable out to 1,200 yards (the farthest I've shot it).

It just really depends on what you want to get out of it. But for a fun hobby/practice rig, I don't see any real downsides to a shorter barrel.
