Guide tent frame

Hi I recently bought an used canvas guide tent.
It.is over.$1400 for a frame for it.
Has anybody made their own frame, and if so what did you use?
16x20x5 size frame

Buy an angle kit and cut hardware store 1” conduit to length. The dealer will likely be able to tell you what lengths to cut everything. Easy Peasy.

How did the previous owner rig it?
some take frames, others take poles

a stick frame can be made, 2x3s and plywood joiners for the bents with 1x4 strapping tying things together

A hint for those welded frame corners, paint or tape the polls and where they meet the frame kit, using different colors for side and peak side side joints

Galvanized rigid conduit (GRC) has the thickest walls of all electrical conduit.

Good tip on the painting of pipe to pipe and joint connections. I did mine with model paint, saves tons of time in setting up.

Definitely get an angle kit. I cheaped out and bought EMT, do yourself a favour and buy aluminium conduit if you can... Much lighter.

Measure 2-3 times before cutting. Also, assemble the frame without the tent and paint match the angle kit with the appropriate lengths, makes putting it up much easier.

Wood is fine if you're looking for a more permanent set up or have help. I can put up my 10x12 alone with my metal frame in 30 min, staked.

Buddy made one out of conduit for his Woods.
Inside frame.
The end top pieces he welded big warshers on the inside.
The purpose was to run a closeline from end to end.
Great to dry yer wet clothes and towels.
With the wood stove it dries things amazingly fast.

Weed set up the top frame, toss the tent over it and lift each corner to
install the legg'ins.

The set I bought from Campers Village came color coded, good idea.

2x3 are strong enough

I've seen a couple of those left at lakes. Fit easily in a airplane or on a horse for a one way trip.

Pardon my ignorance but wouldn't PVC work just as well? You can get the angled corners and all the straight pieces. If you need the strength, a 3 inch pvc pipe is probably as strong as you would ever need, it is no bigger than 2x4 and a lot lighter.

I was going to make one for my son. Let's just say, buying one is a way better option.

I had many wall tents for my camps outfitting, and buying the preconstructed aluminum frames and angles is worth every penny. Frankly, they were cheap compared to the other implements and gear we use to access our hunting areas. I’d rather be hunting than cutting tubing and trying to make angles to save a few bucks.
