Guided elk hunting in Alberta

We're they in attack mode? Cause high powered self defence would be the next order of business. Followed by warming up the BBQ. :)

Exceptional Elk in either province, I'd look at hunting in Willmore Wilderness Park as an Alberta resident. It's horseback only, no ATVs or motorized transport allowed, 4500 square kms of Rocky Mountain heaven adjacent to Jasper up the mountain chain. Resident packages are often a smidge cheaper and if paying for an outfitter / guide I'd want to do it right and use something you likely don't have access to, like their horses.

I'd be looking elsewhere, for elk. ;)

Grizz

I am heading out with Glen Brown OF Blue Bronna Outfitters this fall. I am told he has really good success and has a great reputation. Good luck on your search. I have also heard good things about Rick Guinn as well

Grizz

With all due respect Grizz, and I may be surprised, but how much hunting have you done in Willmore? 70% of Sherwood's hunts for instance produce over 300", with bulls up to 400" bagged. I fly helicopters in Northern BC, and around Grande Cache AB. I get to see an awful lot of what's there animal thanks to my job, and the best I've seen lately is the Elk around Willmore, the numbers and quality are unbelievable. I've yet to drive Hwy 40 and not see droves of Elk, as well. No need for him to leave Alberta, some of the best Elk going right on the doorstep.

I'd have to agree with Grizz about the Willmore...it's sure not the elk and moose Mecca it used to be. Too many years of fire suppression I fear. No doubt McMahon takes the odd good bull out of there and enjoys the success that a lifetime of hunting it will provide but I seriously doubt they've seen anything close to 400, not in recent years anyhow. With that said, the Willmore is an awesome experience and Pete runs a great camp. I'm not sure I'd count on a 300" bull though.

If I was going on another guided elk hunt, it would be in Northern B.C. ,in the Prophet/Muskwa area. On my previous trip there, every hunter turned down several 6x6 elk during their hunt, and the camp enjoyed 100% success on moose and elk. I never saw a 350 or better bull, but bulls in the 280-310 class, were very common.

I shot a good bull just west of Nanton right beside the Earls land a few years ago and am told there is still lots more bulls around. In the herd I shot out of there were at least 6 or more good bulls to pick from and I just took what I thought was the best to me. I would post pics if I had any idea how to. There are good sized bulls down near Waterton also but access sucks. Biggest bull I ever seen taken came off the Ya Ha Tinda or how ever they spell it. Used to hang in the bar in Okotoks for years.

That's good to hear. Nanton is only an hours drive from my home. Would love to see the pics

I am a partner on a trapline, the sr holder is an outfitter for elk. Not too sure how they do, some of the pics are nice bulls for sure. His outfit is called Elk River Outfitters. Depending on where things are moving, he has access with river boat or atv's and trucks.

Also know of a few guys in BC... Pink Mountain Outfitters in the north, and I can't remember the guys outfit in the south, but if your interested pm me and I will get you the info.
