gun bluing question

Hey guys i just recently bought an old rem 870 and i am restoring it to a new finish
I restained and varnished the wood
and now i put about 4 coats to reblue the upper receiver..

question is how do i get a darker finish. seems like a greyish tint

What are you bluing it with? Cold blue?

Take it to someone who does proper hot caustic blueing.

My barrel is well done its thereceicer that doesnt come out right.. Its cold blue

I have done a couple rifles with cold blue it doesn't last very well and rusts easily I found that when I got a gray Finnish it was usually because I didn't degrease enough.
