Gun buying etiquette

When I am feeling up a gun for a possible purchase, I never assume any direction is safe. I always ask. "Where is a safe direction to point it?"

They answer, no one is offended or pissed off.

When I take a pistol out out of my safe I ALWAYS check for a mag in the magwell AND RACK the slide - check for no round in the chamber - then ease the slide forward and with the gun in a safe direction pull the trigger. When showing it to another shooter with my same experience, again I rack the slide back and hand it to him "crossways" (so its not pointing at either of us) and HE automatically goes thru the same procedure I did in "clearing the gun".
If an "unknown person" or "newbie" is involved the cleared pistol is placed on the workbench and they are instructed on the proper way to clear and handle a hangun.

AND if anyone wants to know my "credentials" I'd be happy to quote chapter and verse...

My Son and I do this.

I would expect anyone else to do it as well.

Store , It cant hurt to do it as well .
Also not a bad idea if you ask them the direction they prefer you to look thru the sights.
It is simple respect

I'd love to know your "credentials"...
