Gun Cleaners and Lube: The Best of the Bunch!

For every day rimfire cleaning, I use the weed wacker pull through with a dry patch followed by an oily patch before it goes in the safe. More thorough cleaning means an overnight soak after a brushing with Hoppes Bench Rest 9, then a scrub the following morning with a bronze brush. A few dry patches, then an oiled one. I always dry patch the bores before shooting.
My gun oil of choice is Mpro 7.
 
Typical clean is G-96 or One Shot (but going to experiment with others to find the best) on bore snake to get the major gunk and then G-96 on patches with my OTIS kit, repeat until patches come clean, run a dry patch, then a patch of fluid film through the bore for protection. So far it has worked well for me, but always on the hunt for a better product to get all that gunk out.

i use to use whatever was on sale then one day i had a AR freeze up mid mag.
i was dumbfounded that a gun would freeze up right in the middle of shooting.
did some research and G96 sounded like what i needed, i switched over to their stuff and have run it for the last 12 years.
flawless function and my guns look sooooooo nice.
and the smell..... god why dont they make cologne!!!

ive tested my guns out in -50 and no freezing up since switching.

ballistol and G96 buy em bulk and never run out. One shot is great for cleaning reloading presses, parts and dies. Use it for that.

I use a tiny bit of extreme duty oil on the important parts that need it (the ones that rub together a whole lot). Seems to keep em going for long sessions. I find the more i use Ballistol the more easier it is to clean - so I keep using it.
 
I think I'll be buying frog lube in the future after reading that link! And probably the fancy WD-40 for my bike chain...

Non-chlorinated brake cleaner generally does not eat plastics. You don't want to use chlorinated solvents in your barrel, especially if it's stainless, as they tend to exacerbate barrel wear through stress corrosion cracking.

Other than that, brake cleaner is fine as a cleaning solvent and the aerosol can helps to flush out crud from the nooks and crannies. Just make sure that you follow up by oiling afterwards to protect the degreased metal. Any of the "gun scrubber" type products are basically the same thing as brake cleaner with a different label and a higher price.
 
Lots of great cleaners and lubes on the market

I use lead out for the bore....to remove lead...then a shot of wipeout for storage

All actions are cleaned and wiped with ezzox as it's the best rust inhibitor I have found especially in salt water environments.
