Gun Engraving

Hello, I'm the one doing the engraving for JPBcal30.

Here is another pic of some finished work.
Besides my engraving, the gunsmithing and stockwork were done by Chris Dawe and the case colour hardening by Oskar Kob. Best thing is that we are all in Canada.

Hey Brian aren't you supposed to be working on my receiver :)

Do you do the engraving prior to the colour case hardening process or how does that work if I may ask?

@JPBCal308 Your receiver is done. Just the barrel to do now. :)

@the spank If needed, and it often is, the receiver is annealed first to soften it. THen any work and cutting is done. Then it gets set for re hardening which will also give it it's colour! A simple explanation but you get the picture.

My Dad would be happy there are still people around who can do this level of work. It was the family trade, he apprenticed to his uncle at a young age as previously mentioned. I have his tools but of course have no concept of how to use them. The family joke was Dad could write faster backwards as that is what he did all day. Beautiful work Scarhart.

I'm not trying to be a smartass, but I just Googled 'Firearms Engraving Canada' and came up with several in Canada.

I realize that this doesn't actually answer your Q, as you were looking for recommendations, rather than just names.
Hope that helps.

Btw, I had the good fortune to drop by both Purdey and Holland & Holland two months ago to look at the guns. Got a guided tour at the Purdey shop at Audley house. Absolutely stunning. I held a nice 20g sxs worth more than my house.
(I was just there to drool. Can't afford them on a firemans wage!)

I just got pics from Oskar on a pistol I just finished.
Unfortunately the pics are low rez so you can't see a lot of detail. As soon as I get it I will be taking some higher rez photos.
