Just curious if there's a preferred brand or formula that most people use? I bought a can of G96 CLP and I quite like it so I thought about getting some of thier grease but as with everything G96, it's pricey....thought maybe the Lucas grease might be the way to go as I also have some Lucas CLP and it's nice as well.
Does anyone just use the heavy duty red grease? I have a bunch of the Shell all purpose heavy duty grease for my trucks but I know that stuff isn't really recommended for higher heat applications.
Any suggestions? Thanks!

I use Lucas Red and Tacky on all my trap guns, Krieghoff, Perazzi and Caesar Guerini get it Cdn Tire for about $12 for a 1 lb jar, been using the same jar now for 4 years and probably another 4 years worth in it, just use a Q-Tip to apply to all wear points.

What are you wanting to grease and why? A little grease on a bolt actions locking lugs is about it for me...

I just use some red automotive synthetic, because its cheap and stays soft in the cold, on my bolt lugs and other areas where grease is used (such as Garand / M14 rollers, bolt, grooves, slides, etc.). I use thin oil or G96 as a rust preventative on other parts. I have some "Gun grease", that is black bentonite grease, but its nasty black and looks dirty, so I don't use it on many things.

Uhhhhhh ...... just how hot do you think you are going to get your guns with Canada's ludicrous magazine limits?

The sliding parts of any firearm will NEVER get anywhere near as hot as many vehicle parts do.

Super Lube grease

will not discolor stainless

will not separate at 450 F scale

has worked well on my NFA items & semi pistol & AR platforms for decades

I use Lithium Die Makers grease. It stays put, sticks to metal surfaces, but does not hold dirt. I use it on about anything that slides; hand gun slides, bolts in bolt actions and semi autos, break actions. Use very little; if you can see it, you have used too much.

Excellent for breaking in new actions.

It's for a recoil operated semi so it would be right in the action...a mag tube dump, as it were, might get it hot enough to matter? But I'm probably not going to waste money on a brand name, if the consensus is that your average run of the mill truck grease is good enough, then I'm good with it.

This is in reference to IDC's post.
