Gun Kote metal prep

The instructions on the Brownells site say that to put Gun Kote on you must aluminum oxide blast the metal first. Does anybody know if Parkerizing it first and then spraying it would provide the adhesion instead? I'm set up for parkerizing but not blasting. Thanks in advance.

I find parkerizing to be an EXCELLENT base for GunKote.

If you go to the KG Coatings website, you'll see they mention the same. It will work very well!

basically you need to roughen the surface a bit. you could likely even use fine grit sand paper if you had to.

Ok, do I need to sandblast before parkerizing? I've been just etching the metal with muriatic acid before this and then parkerizing. I've been getting good results.

+1, blasting should be done to have even surface on ALL sprayed on type finish, even sand paper will leave uneven finish if thin enough

I have had very satisfactory results with both parking and coating after blasting.
