Heading down to The Playa de Carmen (sp?) area soon and was wondering if anyone who has been know of any markets or shops that would have any holsters?

None that I found. Alligator boots, some fancy rifle scabards, but no handgun leather.

Didn't notice any handgun holsters on 5th avenue in Playa Del Carmen or in Cancun either. But as gnmontey noted, lots of fancy looking, albeit cheaply made, leather rifle scabbards (wouldn't last an hour on a horse) But for the price, I couldn't resist and bought one for a mancave wall decoration/souvenier. Glad I packed along a big-ass GI duffel bag to bring that sucker home :)

Mexican Leather

An American friend brought me a very nice Bianchi brand revolver holster from the US. On the back it says "Made in Mexico".

If you buy in Mexico made sure its leather not cardboard. Threaten to light it and they will point you in the direction of the leather ones. Haggle by starting at 30% of the asking price and pretend to walk away, the results are amazing. Cowboy holsters are most common. Have fun.

"Cowboy holsters are most common"

Where? I didn't see any and I was looking!

Dunno about Playa, but in the touristy part of Cozumel [it's a fun US$12.50 ferry ride], there's a Rogers Boot shop that has a big display of western-style holsters and belts. I almost bought one for my Redhawk, but I was unsure of the size...most of the holsters looked too small. Yeah, start bargaining at 30%...if you look like you might walk away, the price comes down pretty fast.

I actually seen a fair number of holsters and belt combos when I went to Playa (last spring) all cowboy action revolver holsters but some nice leather work for real good prices. Im sure if you ask you will find them.
Have a good trip.

Yup lots of cowboy stuff in Playa.

There is at least one other leather shop on Cozumel that has shoulder holsters and hoslters for semi-autos...when you get off the ferry from Cozumel walk straight down the road in front of you and hang a right at the first street (PAST the big open park area, I think there is a bank on the left of that intersection). Leather shop is there in that strip.
