I hate to break it to the OP but a dime + dime doesn't equal a quarter.
dime + dime + tax = almost a quarter

I did the "never have both out at the same time" trick last summer when my brother and I bought identical Ruger target 10/22's. And then slipped it into the cabinet at my parents place along side a few guns that I had left there when I moved out. Then told her that I was taking some old guns home with us. I think she caught on, but as long as I don't put us into the poorhouse, she doesn't really care. I was trying to figure out a way to tell her that I bought the norinco deal from Canada Ammo and managed to get her to buy one too.
