Gun oil use, lubricating the bore?

should/can/need I use gun oil for the bore? and clean it before shoot?

or is gun oil only for maintaining the outside?

unless i'm hunting , after cleaning i put the rifle away with the bore coated with clp. ordinary gun oil is fine too. i dry it out before shooting. the bore needs protecting from rusting just like the outside.

I suppose it depends on where you live. In Saskatchewan's dry climate I don't oil bores at all, except for muzzleloaders. That's due to the water cleaning. There is a trace of oil left from most powder solvents, and that has always been enough to prevent rust.
