Static display
Several pieces of military equipment are located along Sheppard Avenue West outside LFC HQ:

2 Sherman Firefly tanks
floating pontoon bridge
Cougar AVGP
MLVW (M35) Truck

Other pieces of military equipment are located next door outside of DRDC Toronto:

Canadair CF-5 Freedom Fighter
M113 APC

I'm surprised I didn't get sent from Shilo to paint it while on extra duties. I painted every other damn monument on that base.

Lmao. Waiting for TQ3 trg at Armoured School Depot Sqn, I painted 3 MLVW's by hand, just brushed new paint over the old black and green. After the first one I was asking myself why I bothered joining.

For years I've wondered about this machinegun located in Beamsville Ontario. I knew I would be driving through Beamsville today and so I stopped and took a couple pictures motivated by this thread to finally find out what kind of machinegun it was. After I got home I went online and tracked down this great web page, a treasure trove of information about artillery and guns at memorials across Ontario and Canada. http://silverhawkauthor.com/artillery-5-ontario-barrie-bath-beamsville-belfountain-belle-river-belleville-blenheim-bloomfield-bracebridge-brantford-brockville-burlington-and-burks-falls_787.html

This is what I found out about this machinegun and the artillery piece located beside it:

German First World War 7.92-mm Maxim Spandau MG 08 Machinegun, (Serial Nr. 7931), mounted on a Schlitten stand. This weapon was captured on 28 Aug 1918 by a Canadian Battalion within an Infantry Brigade of the 2nd Canadian Division of the Canadian Expeditionary Force (CEF). No official allocation in the record. East side of the cenotaph, Jacob Beam Public School Park.

Great pictures. I think the Spandau Maxim gun is the same as the one in Douglas MB.
I thought Hiram Percy Maxim was the inventor of the fully automatic machine gun, but it was his father. He was the inventor of the silencer and the founder of the American Radio Relay League. It's the largest group of organized ham radio operators. That's where I first heard about him. His uncle invented smokeless gunpowder. Interesting family.

Maxim was apparently told, if he wanted to make a great deal of money, he should come up with a more efficient way for Europeans to kill each other. :(
