Gun Ranges Across Canada

Care to share these nooks and crannies? I'd really love to have a spot to take my NRs out without driving around the world.

Cheers!

If his "nooks and crannies" are anything like my own, they're either crown land WAY the h*ll off, or, private farms where I have access to hunt...and some target shooting is tolerated. lol

As for gun ranges in the Toronto area...yeah...good luck with that. The closest one to me is Sharon Gun Glub and I think I'd have to mortgage my house to become a member there. Assuming there isn't a 2 year waiting list...which there was the last time I inquired. Meanwhile, I think my buddy in Calgary belongs to 2-3 ranges...furthest one away is 45 minutes.

The West Nova Scotia Rifle and Bow Club is actually West Side Rifle&Bow Association.I.ve been a member for over 20 years.I got another range just a minutes from here.Bear point Rifle club.Established in 1948.It's now an indoor 20yd 22LR range.

Thanks.

I fixed the WSR&BA entry but I cannot find the actual location for Bear Point. I can not find an actual road/street address nor a lat/lon.

Our club/range is the Candle Lake Sportsmans League, which is located 6.5K south of the Candle Lake, Sask south entrance. There aren't many pics on our homepage, but I can upload some later. We have an awesome range which is up to 500yds, which include steel silouhettes such as deer, bear, moose, elk, etc. Great bunch of people and has been active since the mid 70's.

I think we might be spoiled.
These are all within 30 minutes of Ottawa.

If you stretch that out by 15 minutes, there is another range called "Grenville Fish and Game Club" (http://www.grenvillefishandgame.com/). They are located in Prescott, Ontario.

They have three approved ranges for handguns, two 25 yard and a 50 yard.
They also have a 100 yard range. They also have a have five stand sporting clays, skeet and trap with wireless throws. On top of that they have an indoor range that is used for both archery and pistol. They have a 2 KM (I think its 2 KM) outdoor archery course and just opened this year a pellet gun range.

Yearly membership for all of that is just $145 for the family for the fist year and $120 for each year after that. Their website does not do it justice. Its a really nice facility and they are heavily involved within the community.

If anyone ever wants to arrange a visit, let me know and I can put one together for you.

This is something I've been wondering about, so I'm glad you've brought it up. I wouldn't mind volunteering to make a database or spreadsheet with all the provinces, gun ranges, number of bays, distances, addresses, opening hours, rules/limitations for each range.

This is an excellent idea. I find it strange that we are allowed to transport our handguns to ranges but I've never been able to find a list of registered ranges!

Hey CNDgunguy,
Just a correction/addition about EOSC;
  • membership is reasonable ($320 ish for first year and that includes the orientation (you get to shoot their guns to try a few out), then goes down to around $225
  • they are currently adding more pistol pits.
  • They now have at least 6, and each one can accommodate about 4-6 shooters per.
  • A new long range rifle range is in the works. 700m max

Stittsville range is pretty good. However due to it's convenient location, they rape your wallet terribly.
  • pistol and rifle range is $576 per year ! ! ! ....and no you can't just buy a pistol membership
  • open weekends and if a member wants to go during the week, you must call ahead to see if they will be there...ssoooo your paying almost $600 per year for a weekend membership :(
  • only 3 pistol pits. but each can handle about 8 shooters

My 2 cents for what it's worth....and in the U.S, 2 cents isn't worth spit....decide for yourselves

Thanks and one correction of my own ;)

They are there they just ask you to call to make sure JTF2 or other groups have not booked the range on Wednesday, Thursday or Friday. I've been a member for 3 years and have never been told I can't go on those days.

I agree it is expensive and the fact you can't just get a membership for the handgun ranges sucks but the facilities are nice and you get 10% of everything except for firearms and powder in the pro shop.

EOSC has really made some improvements over the last couple of year and knowing they will get 700 yards I will be renewing there next year for sure and most likely not renewing at Stittsville. Also being a key club you can got 7 days a week and 365 days a year. Great value for the cost.

In the GTA (Ontario) at least; they are;
-overpriced
-exclusive
-require blood/semen sample prior to joining
-full
-too far away to drive

or a combination thereof.

I sold all my resrtricteds save one for the aforementioned reasons.
Lots of nooks and crannies to to take the unrestricted out to on the other hand within reasonable driving distance.

I never understand why everybody so quick to diss the GTA. There are number of ranges some of which are full and some of which aren't. Considering it's the most highly populated area of the country this is hardly a surprise.

Target Sports has recently undergone $600K in upgrades and has a new club, the Caliber Firearms Association (hope that's right). They are definitely open for business and have drastically reduced the time it takes to become a full member. While the initial cost is a little high, it's not out of line with other private clubs for other sports. The perks that accompany renewal, and the lower price from the first year will keep most members coming back. The costs also are in line with the cost of doing business in the GTA (real estate, taxes, wages, etc.). Their shop has a good range of new and used guns, ammo, and everything else at prices in line with other places.

I understand that the Aurora Gun Club is also taking new members, but I haven't dealt with them myself. If you try to contact him make sure you get the Canadian club and not the one in the USA.

Others can contribute based on their knowledge of the alternative clubs in the area.

I haven't added it to the map page yet because your website provides no location, just a PO Box for mail. How about a street address or a Lat/Lon so we can find it? Or even perhaps driving directions so I can find it on Google Maps?

Thanks

Our "directions" link on the home page lists all including explicit directions and gps co-ordinates.

How well or good gun ranges be is no used if all the gun ranges don't accept new members. Over here in Canada we having politician wanted to stop us for owning guns and the gun clubs is not helping for allowing more gun members. So very soon gun owners will feel what the point of getting gun licence and owning guns if there is no place to shoot it. The more gun owners the stronger we can stand against politician from destroying our hobby. No point of posting which gun clubs is good or nice..

When a range is not accepting new members it is because they are at capacity.
Not because they don't want new members.

Found it, Thanks. I have no idea how I managed to miss the Directions page.

You should be on the map now.

Looks like a neat piece of ground from the Flashearth . com website.

A very confusing read...

He has been a CGN member for three years but that was only his third post, some of us are not as good with the written word as others are.
I think his main point (and a very good one) was that if a range is not accepting new members, that fact should be emphasized when listing it
on this otherwise very helpful thread.

and back on topic....

South West Alberta

Here in Lethbridge we have the Fish and Game range right in town, down in the coulees. www.lfga.org/working/range (Page is down as I write this, but this link worked last week)
Damn fine facility, very clean, and incredibly convenient being right in town.
The problem is, it's right in town and the city is our landlord. So small town politics being what they are we can't have any of the fun stuff. No steel core (Russian surplus, too likely to ricochet out of the range), no binary targets, and we lost the walk-up pistol range (have to stay back at the shack now).

The alternative is the Magrath Rod and Gun Club range, which is about 45 minutes south west of Lethbridge. This one can be a bit messy, as some folks aren't good at cleaning up after themselves, but it's pretty cheep annual fees and all the fun stuff is OK.

Taber has a brand new facility, but I can't comment on it, as I haven't been out there yet. On paper, it looks pretty good.
