Was able to buy a few guns and in the process of waiting on transfer.

I want to use the time to look for a gun club/range to join. Several clubs that I have IDed are Barrie Gun Club and Peterborough Fish & Gams Assoc.

Any insight as to how I becoming members at those clubs? Or other clubs that you guys recommend? Ideally about 1-1.5hr drive from Scarborough.

Barrie needs to be sponsored, anyone care to sponsor me? And Peterborough is so far not responsive as I had sent a few emails over there already...

Question #2 is how to start going into the sport of IPSC. Any one have any ideas?

Welcome!

I guess the ones to consider from your place would be

Gagnon Shooting Center at Gagnon Sports
Target Sports. IPCS, IDPA

Next to look at:
Aurora Gun Club, AFAIK they could be accepting new members, and entertain IPSC (possibly) and PPC (certainly).
Burlington Rifle and Revolver, they do accept new members. IPSC, PPC
Waiting lists are typical, waiting period could be months and years.

For IPSC - start looking for a Black Badge course, but it's not for a very "fresh" shooter.

For IPSC, while it's often said that one should be familiar with ones gear (in advance of the Black Badge course), that advice doesn't come with the close guidance that is needed for the new person.

With supervision, everything will be easier, and you can learn things the right way, the first time, instead of having to re-learn everything (later).

Better to get this one-on-one instruction sooner (i.e.: now), rather than later, before any extra 'bad' habits are created.

Seek this help right away.

I would suggest contacting tacticaltrainingsolutions.ca. and taking a basic pistol course.
The owner of this business is a highly competent instructor. Such a course will get you off to a good start.

Try target sports Canada. It’s in gormely Ontario. 14 stalwart crescent. It’s not far off of the 404. I’m in Scarborough east and when I drive there Saturday and Sunday mornings. It only takes me about 25 minutes to get there. I like it there and I have been a member for 2 years.

You can look into Sharon gun club in East Gwillimbury, which is about a 40-50 minute drive from Scarborough. In order to become a member you will have to either find someone who is leasing a share and or selling a share. You can search kijiji or go to the Sharon gun club website to get more info. It’s an out door range and has 9 shooting ranges for all different type guns. They also have IPSC and IDPA competitions there as well as the IPSC course (course is offered by one of the members there).

Saw some folks selling the share for like $20-30K.. don't know if I have that kind of money. I guess I will keep looking.

Shares are about 15k for sharon, if you find one.
Barrie is closed to the public and referral only.
Black badge is not an easy course to pass, competence with your gear is a must.

if you found a $15k share, I would buy two.
I think right now it's around 18-20K last time I saw it on the bullet board.
