Gun Registry New Rules

Does your local gun/ammo shops 'swipe' your PAL when you purchase ammo????

Not sure what you mean ,pals aren't swiped they just check that you have a valid pal and give you the ammo, no info taken! They however do swipe your cedit card ,and that is sometimes painfull!
If any store or place wants to write my info down ,I will shop elsewhere!
Online whee I buy ammo they delete my info and request it each time I order, that would be on the honor system I guess with whomever you buy online ammo from, same with longuns now, no different than buying ammo!
I guess if the online guys want to go the extra mile you could skype them and show your pal and face so they could see its you,I would be ok with that, due dilligence on their part!

Ontario (and possibly Quebec?) have a provincial requirement that a store must record the identity of firearms owners who purchase ammo.

The other provinces do not. You need only present a valid PAL to purchase the ammo.

Ontario has relaxed it a little.

The CFO has told retailers (supposedly, I hav't bought in a while so I can't confirm) the recording of addresses is no longer required.

Still require PAL#, date, time, quantity and type ec, to be recorded in the "ammo book"

Ok from the talk about how EE deals are conducted... You can't just mail a firearm can you...? Lol sorry for the dumb question but I've been tempted by the EE section, and always thought you had to go through a bunch of flaming hula hoops to mail anything like that... Therefor have never purchased a fire arm any further away than my down town shop.

If businesses that sell guns are confused on what to do, I sure as hell have no idea. :D

Just today i've seen posts saying everything from:

"Just bought my first post registry rifle. Only had to show my pal, paid and walked out with my gun."

to

Just bouget a new shotgun and the store recorded all my info in the book

Its called inventory control !

Canada Post to mail firearms. Everyday anyday. You don't have to mention whats in the box even if it is legal to mail it.

Yea ,it's kinda funny eveytime my mail lady brings a rifle (has no idea what it is) says how heavy it is ," must be bricks" !even got a tt33 in the mail. Ammo gets sent by courier.
I did not know that ontario has to record the info when buying ammo,,interesting,so when you order ammo on line from another province, how does that get recorded, if at all!

How is taking your name and pal number ìnventory control! Inventory control is writing down or typing in the computer what you sold, not who you sold it to!
Proof of purchase for the buyer is as for everything else, the reciept!

Here in Nova Scotia I have never had my info recorded or my PAL swiped. Bought some rounds today at Wally Mart, just showed my PAL, paid and went home. No fuss at all.

I don't think they do it here. I've bought plenty of ammo from Wal-Mart, Canadian Tire and the Army Navy store in Halifax. All of them just gave it a glance to make sure it wasn't expired and that was that.

Canadian Tire requires that a staff member carries it to the counter for you, but that has to be a store rule because no one else I've been to does that.

Agreed. I've bought a fair bit of ammo since the Firearms Act came into effect and had to show my PAL to do so, but I don't recall EVER seeing the clerk record the info on my card....maybe it's just an Ontario thing?

Here in BC, I have always been asked to show PAL, but never seen anyone writing any info down... that even goes for Wally world. However, when I purchase even primers or ammo etc. in Alberta, the clerck does bring a "spiral book" out and writes down the info. Go figure...

When I said Alberta, I was refering to 2 of the big stores in Calgary... I can't speak for other cities or smaller gunshops.

I have not bought ammo myself at Canadian Tire in years, but a few years ago my bro-in-law bought some .410 ammo (at the Huntsville Ontario store). They had a staff member carry it to the counter in a locked fabric bag. Brilliant.

Apparently Canadian Tire does this because some guy shot himself in the face with a shotgun some years ago. In the store. Just what I heard.

If the registry is over, why are the RCMP still sending my sister in law notices to register her deceased fathers guns or to turn them in to the police. His pal has expired since his passing and they sent notices to renew it, which of course she did not.
