Gun Safes for a beginner

If you are in the Toronto area, there is a small but great safe company in Barrie called ADANAC Security. They have many former bank safes that are refurbished into gun safes and they are dirt cheap considering their quality.
I bought one from them. They can modify interior for you. It is Tl-30 rating, was delivered, weighs about 3000 lbs. with manual lock. Its an investment not a cost. I sleep well at night when I am away.

If you live in a "low crime area", and have a decent lock on your front door I would just go with a stack on cabinet. Secure it to the wall, and slap a trigger lock on your guns as well if it makes you feel better. The 8 gun one goes on sale for $80 often. Really fits 6 long guns and 2 pistols on the top shelf in it.

I have pretty much out-grown mine in 3 years, resisting buying another bc then I will feel the need to fill it lol!

I don't mean to hijack the thread, but what about building your own safe? I'd think the only requirement is that it has to be difficult to break into. Potentially you could make it more secure than the average store bought one, and make it any size you need. Is it a real possibility?

How many rifles and gun do I need?
I'm not a hunter.

Hehe.. need. I'm not a hunter either, just an average guy with a PAL. Somehow my count is up to 6. I had to move shelves up in my "14 Gun" safe from Costco after purchasing a trap gun. Once you're into this, deals will come up, appetites will change, and your collection will grow. We can guarantee this.

I don't see the Costco safe online right now either. I bought mine 3-4 years ago and, after lubing the hinges, have had no problems. The backup key is TERRIBLE, so if you find one keep the batteries fresh. They're generally sold in-store only (like those "Special Purchase" sales at CT and Lowes). Bought mine for just shy of 400.

Just picked up a 14 gun safe from my local Costco $399.99. Its a First alert Protector executive/gun model 274404. Not a bad price considering their return policy.

I am in the market for a similar size, but couldn't find anything decent in that price range on the Costco website. Can you let me know what location you went to?

I got mine at the Langley location earlier this week.

Hello All

I'm new to this "sport" and to tell the truth, still waiting for my paperwork.

I've been trying to find Sentry Safe Home Defense Center Model Number HDC11E.
It looks like it would hold two AR15 and a hand gun.
I can't find a store that sells this in Toronto or online in Canada.
I don't what to ship it from the US as the cost of shipping and duties is nuts!

I've also seen YouTube videos and online this safe that I can get.

What do you think about these two safes? I just want a small one as I don't plan on buying more than 1 AR15 and a handgun.

Not sure about the Stack-On safes.

Any suggestions?

Thank you,

Roger

Go to a Costco if one is close by and look at the ones there, go to Canadian Tire and check the Stack On, then compare to the one you are looking at. The Costco one to me was a better deal than the Stack On, many will agree and disagree. One thing about Costco is you know you can take it back if you do t wan it anymore or get a new one if you have any issues.

Great, thanks. I have called and confirmed they have it in stock, but they won't confirm the price. I assume it will still be the same as you paid.

Any chance you can confirm the measurements of this safe? I cannot find anything online from Costco or First Alert with that item #. I have a very specific location in mind for this so it has to be able to fit there or it's a "no go". I'd just go find out for myself, but I'm laid up from a surgery and have to send a family member to go get it. Much appreciated if you're able to help.

It was priced at $449.00 when I looked at it month ago so hopefully its still $399.00.
My safe is still in the box I ripped part of the top open and measured it don't want to take it out of the box until I get it placed where I want it. The thing is freaking heavy.
21" X 16" X 59" 7.77 Cubic feet internal capacity. Gross weight 123 kg.
Looks like it is very similar to the one online with the item#250202. Its 1.5 inch bigger and a bit heavier but same internal capacity it has a better fire rating. I can imagine that the huge difference in price is also due to the cost of shipping such a heavy item.

The Costco 399 safe is a good item to have but with the shelves in my shotguns and longer barrelled rifles go in a stackon cabinet. It will hold 7-8 rifles and 6-8 handguns. I think if your going to have restricted its the best money you will ever spend for liability and family safety.
