Gun Season

there are certain months of the year when a small game license is invalid. form june til sept. i think. this depends on where you are in ontario. (below the french and mattawa rivers i think, but not sure if it goes all the way south.)

definatetly not the french/mattawa rivers. Its closer to the line between Muskoka and Simcoe. These rivers havent had much to do with game laws for a long time.

I understand this I am just trying to figure out if it is not an open gun season for any other animal and I wish to hunt something that falls under small game and it is open season I can use any weapon I want to hunt that animal correct? whereas if it is an open gun season elsewhere I have to use a 22 correct?

I understand the open and closed seasons for the different animals but unlike the animals like bear and such that have a gun season listed in the regs I dont see this for any of the small game animals. Instead of asking repeating questions over and over about if I my license and such can someone just help point me in the right direction, perhaps a page number not just read the regs, I have read them and dont see it or dont understand the small game section fully.

read pg. 13 for the types of animals
go to pgs. 71,72,73,74,75,76 for the seasons

From the regs (pg 71)

The holder of a small game licence may not use a rifle of
greater calibre than .275, except a flintlock or percussion
cap muzzle-loading gun, for hunting small game in
the counties of Brant, Elgin, Essex, Huron, Lambton,
Middlesex, Northumberland, Oxford, Perth and
Wellington and the regional municipalities of Chatham/
Kent, Durham, the former regional municipalities of
Haldimand-Norfolk and Hamilton-Wentworth, Halton,
Niagara, Peel, Waterloo and York and the City of Toronto.

So the answer should be yes, as long as you are not hunting in the areas listed above or your municipality does not have similar restrictions.

whereas if it is an open gun season elsewhere I have to use a 22 correct?

From the regs (pg 22, also on page 71 with different wording)

In an area where there is an open season for deer, moose or black bear if you are the holder of a small game licence, you may not possess or use a rifle of greater calibre or projectile power than a .22 calibre rim-fire rifle chambered to .22 short, .22 long or .22 long rifle or shells loaded with ball or with shot larger than No. 2 shot, unless you possess a valid licence to hunt deer, moose or black bear as the case may be.

When hunting deer or moose you may only use or carry the type of firearms allowed. See pending changes under Important Messages for Hunters (Firearms) on pages 4, 5.

So the answer should be yes again. Or you could use a bow & arrow.
This is the way I interpret these regs anyways.

Was that what you were asking?
