i was talking to a fellow at the Burnaby gun show, and he was telling me if you don't own the caliber you cant buy the ammo??? he says they will be swiping our licenses or they will issue a card with the calibers we can buy.
i hope this is a myth.

I believe it is that way in UK.
I don't know how it works for cartridge collectors over there.
Good thing it is not so here, as I have literally hundreds of cartridges in my collection that I will never have guns for.

Nah, took the wife to the show this morning and I think what the guy said was "If you don't pay at least 50% more than retail for ammo at the show, then you can't buy it here". :p

Thanks for clearing that up, mind you that information has to be linked to some planned computer/swipe card systems that were to be distributed at every licensed gun/ammo dealer in some way .....

The concern is either what information can be sent, or retrieved by said shop once the card gets swiped. With such a "user friendly" system, it is not inconceivable that the plan was for the shop's terminal to ask "is this invividual allowed to puchase .303 British ammunition ?" followed by a yes/no reply from the server. We are a mere OIC away from it. The current web form is also a few lines of code away .... A minor inconvenience for most, but a major concern for some.

The stripe only contains the PAL number. Nothing secret there, sorry.

i hope this is a myth.

If you all read the thread about the presentation (on proposed controls on ammunition components and reloading and related issues) from a recent CFO meeting, you'll see where this is coming from.

It's coming....eventually...from the CFO's.

A couple months ago I bought a can of black powder at Ellwood Epps.
The cashier wanted my licence, spent a good 2 minutes recording everything.
Ammo purchases will be a problem within the next 4 years stateside, an Obama plan that is in the works, and it will be here too.

Next time someone is telling you 'questionable information' check their fingers, if they are burnt on the tips and devoid of fingerprints chances are he is a crac head:D
