going to check it out

Most if not all suck. A few tables of overpriced firearms, random parts, and tables of amway, homemade food and stuff that often ha nothing at all to do with firearms.

i have never been to one in canada so its all new to me but i am sure there are lots of members on here that can shed some light on what goes on at these shows

I bought a pistol recently and left my info and deposit with the reseller he did the transfer and shipped it after that.

There was a member from the CFO at the show..

I've attended shows here in Ont for years (35+) Very seldom do I not buy something. Most of my 40 or so bullet moulds have been purchased at shows. Sometimes good deals on reloading components and factory ammo. I've even purchased a few firearms. Good place to meet and visit with other "gun guys (and girls)"

I have gone from a regular to a sporadic gun show attendee. The best one in Ontario would be Orangeville followed by Woodstock and Ancaster. They are run by the same people so you'll see a lot of the same faces although no two gun shows are exactly alike.

How much you get out of a gun show depends on your expectations, your knowledge and ability to negotiate. Many guns start out over priced but dealers will negotiate and if you know your stuff you can find some good deals at shows. They are are also a resource for various parts, out of production guns and other items the retail gun shops don't carry.

Even if you don't buy anything there's lots to see and they aren't a bad way to spend a Sunday morning.

How closely supervised by Law Enforcement are these gun shows? Can anyone walk in and buy a firearm like in the US? I've never been to a gun show in Canada, but, the shows in the US are just crazy.

I bought several firearms over the last 25 years at gun shows in Canada (non restricted, restricted and prohib).
All gun laws are applied and followed all the time, and you will have to wait until the transfer gets approved by the CFO before you can take possession of your restricted or prohib firearm. If you want to purchase a non restricted firearm you MUST be in possession of a valid PAL.

BTW the Markham gun show, while not the biggest one, is one of the better gun shows in Ontario. It always depends what you are looking for I guess. :)
