A shotgun with a loaded up sidesaddle inside a locked safe. It's all legal, right? Full mag beside a pistol is all good, as long as its in a safe, so I'm thinking I'm all legit with the Moss 500 TR sporting a loaded saddle in the safe......or no?

You're a genius, may I touch you.

Easy guys, it is an honest question even if the horse has already been beaten well beyond the next life.

Legal in a SAFE. yes.

+1.

Just to clarify, from the storage regs attached to the firearms act:

  • 5. (1) An individual may store a non-restricted firearm only if
    • (a) it is unloaded;
    • (b) it is
      • (i) rendered inoperable by means of a secure locking device,
      • (ii) rendered inoperable by the removal of the bolt or bolt-carrier, or
      • (iii) stored in a container, receptacle or room that is kept securely locked and that is constructed so that it cannot readily be broken open or into; and
    • (c) it is not readily accessible to ammunition, unless the ammunition is stored, together with or separately from the firearm, in a container or receptacle that is kept securely locked and that is constructed so that it cannot readily be broken open or into.

and

unloaded”, in respect of a firearm, means that any propellant, projectile or cartridge that can be discharged from the firearm is not contained in the breech or firing chamber of the firearm nor in the cartridge magazine attached to or inserted into the firearm.

OP, assuming you meet the other storage requirements for the gun, having rounds in a sidesaddle attached to either the receiver or buttstock is no problem and 100% legal.

Just read about countless peoples encounters with various police forces Canada wide, cops don't know gun laws and I am almost 100% certain that if an average cop somehow got a peek inside your safe and saw the shells attached to the stock, they would confiscate the guns. We are living in a society in which laws depend on the mood and ignorance of law enforcers and those in power.

This is exactly how I feel about it. I have friends who are police officers and having discussed these issues with them I have come to realize the training they receive is somewhat lacking, or at the very least easily forgotten or misinterpreted as they have so many things to think about. The truth of the matter is that the 'law' can be interpreted differently by individual officers and the correct decision is not always made.

If he's doing that, he'd better have a warrant.
