Hey All,

I'm heading to the US this weekend and was wondering if anyone could suggest a good gun store in the Buffalo area for IPSC stuff? The closer to the border the better.

Cheers,

Buffalo Gun Center.

Google it for website, location and phone numbers.

Have a good trip.

Make sure everything you bring back is importable (not on the "do not export list").

Correct.

Steer clear from ammo, and identify yourself as a Canadian citizen, I am sure store staff will try to be of assistance.
Good portion of their business is coming from north of the border.

However, buyer beware.

Why ?

He is a customer just like any other, and should get assistance no matter where he is from.

Just saying.....

A better thing to do and know is your prices, so you can tell if it's a good deal or not, not everything is cheaper in the US, and as mentioned know the rules of export and import.

Does anyone have a link to the import export rules?
Why stay away from ammo? I thought we could bring it back with me if I claim it at the border?

You cannot possess any ammunition as an alien in the US. You cannot export any ammunition without export permit from the US.

You are not allowed to possess and export ammunition in the US. You can possess ammunition with a US hunting license , but you cannot export any. You have a case of ammo in your car and you are heading to the border - if the US opens your car then it is game over for you.

Greentips has it exactly right. Most times you would make it, but from time to time the US set up a check point for vehicles leaving the US on their side, and if they find anything they do not like or you are not supposed to have, even if you did not know it, you will get into huge doodoo, it is not worth the risk. Also, New York state has some stupid rule about having any kind of reloading components in your vehicle if the vehicle is not registered to the state of New York. The last time I was at the Buffalo Gun Center, I had a great conversation with a State Trooper who is a big time shooter and not very keen on the current status of gun laws in the US, but he told me that even US out of state residence could be charged with having reloading components in their vehicles. He told me he had pulled over a few Canadians and out of state shooters with stuff and let them go, but told them to not do anything that would attract attention to them while driving to the border. Telling the boys at the Gun Center you are Canadian is a great suggestion, they are a great bunch of people and they will tell you what you can and can't take across.

As previously noted by GT, you can't export ammo from USA to Canada without export permit, and in the extreme cases if caught- your vehicle can be confiscated.
I think- NOT worth it.
Canadian border guards will not say a word to you about it, these are US regulations, and I suggest you take it seriously.

Also, as a poster before me wrote, identify yourself as a Canadian because people that work at the BGC will be able to tell you what the procedure is for things that you MAY import.
At most cases, they will go out of their way to help you conquer hoop course and make it much easier to make that purchase.
