I’m about to sell my handguns. I am going to keep a couple back for the grandkids. Just not sure what to keep. I think my Colt 1911 series 70 and FN high power (like new). I have Ruger wheel guns in 45C 44 mag and a 3 screw 357 (like new). Semi auto Ruger 22s and a colt and a German 22 revolvers. What “ these were grandpa’s guns” seem special. Thanks.

If it were me, I would keep them all. My will encourages keeping the firearms in family possession and never allow the government to take them whatsoever. If you must only pass down a few, the 1911 and hi-power would top the list along with some .22s

Well there are two obvious questions.

What guns do they want? Are they old enough to answer that question.
What guns do YOU want them to have? Because they tell a story about you that you want the memories to be symbolized and evoked by the firearm?

I have a stripped receiver for each of my kids, both to ensure that they will one day be able to own one of the most versatile firearms ever, but also to allow them to configure it as they see fit. And even if they never do, the receiver on its will be a teaching tool about government overreach, bureaucratic nonsense, spineless sychophants, opporessive restrictions on freedom, and the value of perseverence in the face of adversity. You know all the typical bed time story stuff.

If you don’t need the cash, I recommended keeping all but the German revolver.

OP , perhaps give them the ones that most remind them of you .
Anything they might have shot with you will always remind them .

I suggest keeping all of them. As our sport tightens up, it may be more difficult for your grandkids to get these guns. Also, the bigger the collection, the more likely they will stay in the sport. It's also a better investment than money in the bank.
