Gun Wax

I have been using frog lube on my metal parts and birchwood gunstock wax on wood stocks. The frog lube works fine and smells even better does not leave a greasy film on your gun. I used to use barricade by birchwood but I think it is banned in some states due to Carcinogens.

Why not under the stock line? I’ve always done this but very sparingly to avoid build up but is there something I’m missing? Genuinely curious.

It's mostly an old habit from carrying firearms in the field hunting, in some stressful conditions and shooting Hunter Bench Rest.

Wax can become soft under some conditions and this will have a negative effect on accuracy. It can also act as a dirt magnet. It's relatively soft, even when it's cured and tiny bits will penetrate and stay.

A fine coat of silicone is a much better coating IMHO and it helps to displace water and dust.

Any kind of coating in stocks with borderline or poor bedding is a recipe for disaster when you least need it to happen.

You can get away with it on some rifles, but why take the chance?

I know shooters that slather their rifles in 10wt engine oil or transmission fluid. They usually are quite happy with 4 inch groups.

It's really your choice when it comes down to it.
