Guys check out the stailess PT1911 review from the GunBlast website.

(should be out after the Shot show '08... I want one now!):(

http://www.gunblast.com/Taurus-PT1911SS.htm

Just a quote, more info on the site; "The chamber is throated to feed hollowpoint and wadcutter ammo with ease. The grips are thinner than normal 1911 grips, and have a very good feel to them. The mainspring housing and front strap are already finely checkered for a positive grip. The grip safety is of the high beavertail style, and the pistol wears a rounded Commander-style hammer. The frame and slide are made of forged stainless steel. The pistol has a full-length stainless guide rod. The ejection port is lowered and flared. The ejector is elongated for more positive ejection of spent cases. The eight-shot magazines, of which two are supplied, wear an extended base pad. The magazine well is slightly beveled for easier insertion of the magazine. The magazine release button is checkered and extended. The slide has deep grooves fore and aft to aid in easy operation. Both front and rear sights are dovetailed into the slide, and both are adjustable for windage correction. The manual thumb safety is extended, and thankfully, ambidextrous. There are pistols on the market that cost hundreds more that do not have an ambidextrous safety. As a left-handed shooter, that is important to me. Competitors also need an ambidextrous safety in many of the shooting sports. Thanks, Taurus"

From the pictures it doesn't look like a particularly well-made 1911. Look at how poorly the beavertail is fitted to the frame:

And what's with the butt end of the extractor sticking 2mm out of the back of the slide? It's supposed to be fitted flush.

I hope it shoots better than it looks.

The checkering under the trigger guard is useless.
The ejection port looks weird, it's bevelled, but doesn't look lowered?

It's not a $2000 gun....;) for a 1911 that will sell for under $600 in US it's looks VERY well made and according to this photo it can shoot just fine...

I was in a Gun Shop in the USA about a year ago when the first of the Taurus PT1911 in Blued Steel first came out. I fella working the counter said that they couldn't keep up with the demand for them and that there were no problems reported to them. Seems like alot of gun for good price

The Norinco 1911 looks better made, my NP 30 certainly is.
that's funy, good one!

Might be a competitor to the norinco 1911s
and my Norinco .22 is a competitor to Pardini

If I had to pick between a SA mill-spec (also made in brazil), STI spartan (cast gun made by Arsmcor) and basic (blued) Kimber I'd definitenly go with stainless PT1911. What other choice is there for a loaded stainless 1911 for under $800 in Canada ($500-600 in US)?

I never understood the "bargain hunter" mentality. It seems that people these days are more interested in getting a good deal than a good product (hence, the success of Wal-Mart). Taurus may be the cheapest "loaded" 1911 on the market, but you are still paying $800, which is a relatively large chunk of change. You are only saving about $250-300 compared to a regular "loaded" stainless 1911 (i.e. S&W, Kimber). Why not save up a little more and get a gun that comes with properly fitted parts (not the Brazilian hack job evidenced by the photos above), as well as Canadian warranty support. Like my signature says, in the long run, cheap is expensive. You will probably end up spending more money out of pocket on correcting Taurus' factory defects than you would save by going with a cheap gun.

I'm serious. My NP30 has non of the poor workmanship shown in the photos of the Taurus 1911 on this thread. Maybe I just got lucky, I will soon find out as I have ordered another one
I kinda find it very difficult to believe, I've shot a Norc' 1911 and own one in .22 and compared to my other Taurus gun; Norinco quality is not even close to Taurus‘s fit and finish. Also I don’t see any “poor workmanship shown in the photos” you’re talking about. It looks like a quality pistol that would cost few hundred $ more if it was made by another company (like Kimber, SA, STI etc)
