I wanted to pass on good things about Jason Spencer after again receiving excellent service with very fast turn around time and fair pricing. This time a Marlin 1895 45/70 was dropped off for rebarrelling on Saturday. My brother dropped it off at 12:00 right before Jason was closing up shop for the day. I got a call at 11:15 this morning to say that the barrel was head spaced and installed for $75.

To give this some perspective, Longs (the authorized Marlin repair center in Canada) told me it would be $350 for the barrel and the work. If you talk to Marlin the barrel is only worth about $70 US (or about $80 CDN) meaning that they were going to charge me almost four times what Spencer did.

I guess the lesson is that it pays to shop around and Jason Spencer is very much a gunsmith worth doing business with.

i have had some work done by him as well and you cant find a better smith in ottawa or a nicer one his quality is superb and he is rather fast with his turn around times i know there are alot of people on here that have dealt with him and i am pretty sure they will all say they same or similer things and his dog is cute lol

Jason Spencer is a great guy and his work is unchallanged. I don't know how many times I've gone into Gunco with a problem that he couldn't solve in less than 5 minutes. Not to mention that his inventory changes daily and I've picked up several firearms from him at very fair prices.

What does he work on? Pistols, Rifles, shotguns?

Does he have a specialty like 1911,s or S&W's, shotguns???

Is there work(Chroming, Bluing) he cannot do ???

Does he do custom metal work, fabrication?

Jason has done some very nice work for me as well, and his prices are outstanding.

Bear.23 - not sure about chrome plating, but Jason does verrrrry nice blueing. The only issue is that you may need to wait a little while, as he does his blueing in batches a few times a year. He will work on just about anything, as long as he has the necessary tools. If you need a trigger job on your Norinco 1911, no problem. Sight rail on your SKS? No problem. Barrel cut and re-crowned? No problem...

I've had him tweak my Ruger Vaquero's to POA/POI, he's fixed up my Norinco 1911A1C sights, my 1897 Winchester, SXS, and a couple of others I brought in over the years.
He seems to have had just about everything in his shop over the years I've dealt with him.
Quick. Reasonable. Good man to do business with.

Some of you may know, I know Jason pretty well and spend alot of time at his shop and alot of money on his services. Those with longer memory know I had a .300 H&H custom safari rifle built by him late last year and I'm having a .35 Whelen custom Mauser 98 built by him right now.

I've also had a custom 1911 built on a Norinco government .45 a ways back that alot of CGN'ers seemed to like.

Jason is a master gunsmith and his work speaks for itself. I can't give a better endorsement than that.

Here's some eye candy:

He is a great guy to deal with; his prices are great and he knows what he is talking about. He will be the first person to tell you that the project you want to start may be cheaper to go with someone else, or a new rifle all together.

I have bought a few rifles from him; one malfunctioned and he paid me out of his till when I mentioned to him even though it was a commission gun.

I find that the little bits and pieces he always seems to have lying around are great; you never know what you will be coming out of there with.

Does he come here? Any contact info?

I don't think he has time! 613-224-6266

Jason's secret is he loves his work. He needs a buffer out at the front desk. He often fixes little problems on the spot and refuses to take money from me.
Here's an example of his bluing.
