OK, Ive read quite a bit about Gunkote...and it seems that its not available in Canada...or at least wasnt. Can anybody provide an update on its avilability today?

With Gunkote out of the picture it looks like were down to Armacoat and Duracoat. Now if we read previous threads we get some opinions on the two but no concrete comparisons or photos.

Here's the question...Can any of you folks that have used either of these provide some photos and experiences so the rest of us can get a good idea of what we really want before tracking this stuff down??

For one of my projects I would especially be interested in any of the silver/stainless coloured finishes...Who's got pics?

Thanks for the help folks.

Brushed stainless gun kote.

Another brushed stainless. ETA..the colour is off in this pic. It doesn't have a blue hue to it.

KG Gun Kote is available in Canada. I have been coating guns with it for quite some time, though mostly black, OD Green, and Dark Earth. I am about to try the Stainless soon.

I discovered the hard way that if you don't preheat the flat colours to 150 degrees it gives you a nice rough texture...

this would be great for my old marlin 444s. how durable is this stuff? and yes where too can I get some?
It's probably the most durable coating out there. Go to their site (K & G coating) and read the info on it.
TSE used to carry it..check with them.
The only downside is..you can't use it on anything but metal.

KG GunKote is easy to work with (in my experience)

As long as the surface is prepped properly (this is KEY), the finish is quite durable.

I bought a pint a few years back, and I have refinished 5 guns - and still have half the bottle left.

A good quality airbrush is essential, in my opinion.

air brush and an oven large enough for your gun. I have used dark earth tan, titanium, flat black, olive drab, milspec olive drab, brushed stainless, satin orange and dark flat gray as well as gun metal blue. Even if you scratch the finish and do the proper pre-treatment no rust. Awesome stuff but not really what you want to get into if the plan is to simply do a single gun, unless you have all the tools that you need and a space to do it in.
