Gunnut kill with a gunut gun now with recovered bullet pics

here are the bullet pics.

I entered above the shoulder( I was in a tree stand) and punched through the far shoulder ending up against the far side of the hide( I could feel the bullet against the fur)

so was this a bullet failure( even though it did its job?)

interesting that it didn't make it all the way through, I wonder how it would have fared on a moose or elk.

Nevertheless, it's hard to call that a failure when the steaks are in the freezer...

Wow! Wow! ect! Beauty Buck! Way to go! ( hoping when I go this weekend I'll get lucky as well!) Thanks for sharing and great pic's!

Way to go grouseman! Very nice mass, well it's already been said...
For a factory FC bullet, I would say it held up very well considering the task it did, hitting bone at close range like that, and it isn't even a bonded core. Alot of times they will shed the core.
Great job, and good luck on the 'bou!

Even when a bullet fails, it will kill 95% of the time, just as well as a bullet that didnt come apart. like said, the meat is in the freezer, and the performance of the bullet can be expected for a low end factory load

It just turns into two projectiles, generally the jacket stops pretty quick.

On my moose, the lead had just barely come free of the jacket under the hide on the off side. Very common I have found with the Speer hot cor.

Ha ha, a ton or so! Close to 30" I'd say, plus two shoulder blades, just behind the rib on the blade, both sides. Didn't think it would separate on that one though. The Hornadies seem to hold alot better, but then they have the cannelure crimping it in a bit too.
I am also referring to the 105gr 6mm hot cor, 200gr 30 cal hot cor and perhaps a 270 cal hot cor I may have tried.

Once season is done, I am going to gather up all the recovered bullets I have retrieved and then we can stir it up. lol

River Rat used the same bullet on a huge bull up here last year and got "a ton" of penetration on his, too.

So much for the 270 gr 9.3 Speer being too soft.......................

I was under the impression that if the bullet DIDNT exit the animal then it worked perfectly.

any force spent leaving the animal is better spent in the heart lung area then punching out the side!

It must be hard to blow through a Yukon moose unless you are using a failsafe, barnes x etc. Am I wrong Ted?

My buck I shot had the heart and a lung blown out of it, the bullet did not exit and there was no blood until he landed after jumping a fence, 20 yards from where he was hit!

When Nugget hit his Moose, the Accubond went through both lungs and exited, leaving a great blood trail.

Mind you, I didn't need to worry about a trail with mine. That 9.3 slug hit him like Randy Savage accidentally landing on his fragile Elizebeth outside the ring, and never even tried to get up again.:p
