Back to the OP.... I have a 1963 Wingmaster with ati forestock and police wood on the pump I painted green. It is a classic 16 gauge and I cut the barrel down to 19 inches for shooting zombies and stuff. I will be offering it up for $650 on the EE. Email for pictures. Serious offers only no looky-loos! Oh, I drilled it for a sling, add $30 and the sling is yours too! Shipping extra.

Gotta say it! Straightshooter, you have been around the forum a lot longer than me and I think your message has been received. I have to say though, that those times when a topic may have journeyed to another dimension, some of the questions I was looking for answers to, got answered and great information and tips were presented. The natural flow of conversation either on this forum style or one-to-one leads to further discussion on or off topic. There are times, I think when we need to be admonished, however, when outdoors people get told something is stupid when dealing with the natural flow of conversation, human nature takes over, as you have noticed. Just a real old guy here hoping I am on topic. By the way, Robert(Nicholson), yes, shotguns are good things, particularly if you find one you can use for moose, that will fire 20000 shells of trap a year and costs less than $350.00.

Totally agree. Hijacking a thread is generally the sign of a self-centered prick. I know we all do it sometimes, but we should make the effort to minimize it as much as possible. If the grownups are discussing dedicated trap guns, why can't Bob the Knob keep his yap shut about his 18.5" shotty? I can forgive a guy who brings up a related topic, as it may be something the OP hasn't even heard about.

But either stay on topic or start a new thread. Simple.

With regard to etiquette and particularly in the shotgun section... I have noticed recently that due to a number of shotgunning gatherings some members have taken to addressing each other by their real given names rather than their CGN handles... I have seen this destroy online communities as it suggests an exclusive insider club that occasional members aren't admitted to... whether this is real or perceived is not the issue, making all feel welcome under the banner of the section (Sporting Shotguns) is the point... JMO but I encourage all members to refer to each other by their CGN handle and level the playing field for those that can't make it to social gatherings etc...

That is a different point of view. I find that when "communities" start establishing rules and etiquette I generally head somewhere else. First names don't bother me nor do I feel excluded. My only concern would be security/privacy at a long shot when using real names. But it is good we can all share our POV's.

This is a great thread. I don't agree that someone asking a question that isn't directly related makes them a self centered prick. That's a little over kill. I like to thing of a thread as a think tank where people can freely and openly discuss whats on their mind. Train of thoughts get derailed. It's only natural for it to be reflected in conversation. Ever sat around having drinks with friends.

Life is to short to waste your time being offended.

I have learned many things while reading the various threads. Yes, there can be derailments, but not so much that it gets to me. The only things that really bug me is when guys start taking shots at each other. I have also done this when in a pique of temper so am not blameless here. The old adage of don't drink and dial applies except insert the word post instead of dial. I just quick scan the BS when necessary to pick out the kernels of wisdom. To the OP, we could have better manners at times, on that point I totally agree.

I really enjoy the Hunting and Sporting Shotgun forum. As a noob I have learned a lot and others are always willing to share knowledge. A pretty tough forum to beat IMHO. Cheers.

Straightshooter, like you couldn't see this coming? Now you've got four pages worth of 'buzz-off's' to make.

I'm posting this in the shotgun forum because it's the only section I really care about. But, it applies to the entire site, IMO.

Used to be, when a member initiated a thread, it was just common courtesy not to hijack the thread with related, or unrelated topics. I don't know the reason, and I don't intend to speculate, but BOY has that changed! It seems like all the threads I read these days are pulled off on a tangent by someone who has a question pop into their mind while reading the posts.

Not only is this rude, but it's stupid. Neither the original topic, nor the side topic(s) get due consideration. Interesting topics that, in the past would have resulted in epic threads run only 15 or 20 posts these days.

Folks, when this happens to your thread, you shouldn't be shy to tell the troll to buzz off and start their own thread, if they can't stay on topic. If your topic is a dud, so be it. But don't be such an attention whore that you have to hijack a good thread to pump up your post count.

Whether it's a gun club or a forum board there is always one that has to be anti clique!! If it wasn't for "the clique" I wouldn't need a Perazzi for trap! I could get away with a Krylon painted Cooey with a picatinny rail and fibre optic ghost ring sights!! Thanks Hoyt!! Check the EE tomorrow boys and girls. I'll be posting my Turkish walnut upgraded TM-1 Perazzi. It has a 34" screw choke barrel with a stepped rib but you can cut her back to 18" easy breezy and pound the rib flat with a mallet!!

Correct. Obviously some of you consider yourselves comedians. I hope for your sake you don't have to rely on your "talent" to make a living.

I do enjoy funny comments, but keep them on topic. I agree with those who find gems in some of the off topic remarks at times. Still, keep in mind that those same gems should and would appear in the new thread on the new topic. And, when you're looking for topics you might be interested in, you don't have to read complete, unrelated threads to see if there's anything of interest to you in them. You don't seem to realise that you're depriving yourselves of the very details that are of interest to you. Since I'm going to get my azz flamed anyway, I might as well tell it like I see it:

This USED to be the most amazing forum on the internet, bested perhaps only by the DoubleGun BBS. There are 'regulars' who have long given up even visiting because of the mountains of pablum you have to dig through to find anything worth reading here. What happened to all the newbies who actually want to learn about, and talk about, guns? We had fun - it wasn't all doom and gloom seriousness. But most of all, we depended on and respected each other - we were a community. We even stuck up for one another while we battled gun registries and double standards.

Compare that with 9 out of 10 threads these days wherein the mods ought to be doing their job, carving out the off topic posts and dumping them into new threads. Believe it or not, that was(is) a rule here and it was enforced. Too many so-called Canadian GunNutz are just Nutz. Myself, I value the wisdom of experience and I appreciate those willing to share it with me. Sharptail is an example of someone who has forgotten more about guns that most will ever know. He's alive and well, enjoying himself thoroughly, and couldn't be bothered wasting his time here.

I suspect many of those who posted jokes (not just in this thread) are just hiding their feelings of inadequacy. (Holy crap! Did I just post psychobabble - see what you've done to me!!) I may sound like Chicken Little exaggerating about the sky falling, but it only seems that way because you have nothing to compare today's comments with what we used to see and read. Just as I much prefer classic, hand-made guns to mass produced models, I'd rather read one well written, knowledgeable post to a mass of comments devoid of any substance.

Enough of this chit, I'm going to do some shooting. Have at 'er, boys.
