Really good articles about the origins of IPSC, and the founder, and his friends that started the some of the first quick draw contest (called the Leatherslap) in 1956 at Big Bear lake. Ray Chapman, Thell Reed, Jeff Cooper, and Jack Weaver.

Another article on moving targets, and yet * another article on Arvo Ojala, a gun coach and quick draw pistol master. Basically he had one of the first mass-produced race holsters, and trained hollywood actors, as well as LE and other enthusiasts. his speed was astonishing.[/u]

The Good Old Days EH

Agree that the article on Jeff Cooper et al would be interesting. I got to see it happen in the 1950's and had a chance to buy the very first issue of "Guns and Ammo" with subsequent articles on the CA informal matches that gave borth to so many shooting sports as well as starting a trend that ended up with Military and Police Forces advancing their pistol craft immensely.
Maybe the most interesting 2005 aspect is to see "the more things change the more they stay the same".. Sherriff Jack Weaver showing how to use a two handed hold with a REVOLVER in the 1950's and todays IDPA and IPSC Revolver Divisions where some shoot two handed at distances of three yards and less in matches!
Looking back its amazing to think of how the 1950's "great ideas" have grown and prospered. Like Thell Reed showing basically how to shot "full speed IPSC 2005 style only it circa 1965 or so". Elmer Keith did an article on him just about the time he joined the USMC where he did demo's on fast draw as the US Troops went off the Viet Nam.
