I ride a motorcyle and got to thinking about transport on a bike. Anyone know if there are some specific regs in regards to bikes?

There's a small lockable compartment under the seat that you might be able to stuff a pistol into, but not in a case. I use a tank bag to carry stuff in, I can definitely put a cased gun in there and I'm pretty sure that would be legal for transport.

But what do I do if I got to go into the gas station to pay or to take a leak (while I'm on my way to the range, of course)? Carry the case with me, or leave it unattended in the tankbag that not lockable? Anyone could unzip it and rip off whatever's in there.

I haven't ever had a problem with anyone going through my junk yet, but I'd hate to have the first time end up with a gun getting into the wrong hands.

Motorcycles

Hmmm,

thats a good questions, from what I can remember, firearms must be placed in a truck and out of sight (and trigger locked i think) when a vehicle is unattended. But for a motorcycle, I don't think it is specifically addressed. Your best bet would probably be to take it in with you, just because it can so easily be taken.

Cheers,

The regs don't say you can't transport firearms on a motorcycle and what must be done in the event of doing so.

It all depends on how comfortable you are with the law.

Makes sense, right? Safest place under the circumstances of not being able to lock it "in" a vehicle is to take it with you.

BUT, a cop pulls into the gas station as you're walking out with a conspicuous looking case in hand, or worse, a funny looking bulge under your jacket... Is he going to agree that you've done the "safest" thing or is he just going to say "it's not locked in the vehicle"?

I carry my hand guns with trigger locks, in a locked box, in either the saddle-bag or the tank bag. I don't mind leaving the bike long enough to pay for gas, but a trip to the can requires taking the tank bag. The saddle-bag is immovable if it's mounted.

Crossing the border with a hand gun, on a motorcycle can be an invigorating event.....

Trigger locked and case locked inside my locked backpack. Carried on the body while riding the KLR650 to the range. A Great Time !!

Peace be to journey

Hey hungry. Good to see there's another Kawi driving, gun shooting guy in the world! What kind of backpack do you have that locks?

I'm on a 6r myself, but if I had the money for two, there'd be a KLR right next to it in the garage!

Am I to understand you guys have no conciel and carry laws?

Bob

Yah, rub it in. Thanks. :slap: ;)

Wally: That was a lot of reading! Sorry to hear about your troubles. Glad you posted, it's good to share and learn from everyone's experiences.

Road out to the range is pretty rough, for a sportbike anyway. I'll try to take the Jeep more often than not.
I do like road trips on bike, and it would be sweet to take in some different ranges along the way...

Hasn't this been covered? Where does it say that you can't carry on a motorcycle? Tankbags can usually be locked between 2 zippers, and under the seat is always under lock and key. I plan to carry to the range and I don't see how I am bending the law in any way to have a trigger locked restricted under the seat.

If you happen to have hardsided lockable luggage bags like the Givi system you would be fine locking them inside while your paying for your gas or relieving yourself. But in the tank bag situation, or soft sided saddle bags that aren't lockable I believe you shouldn't be leaving them unattended.
